Cannot receive picture messages on phones (LG Marquee)
Answered

I cannot receive picture messages on my LG Marquee phone.  My wife has the same phone and is experiencing the same issue that began yesterday.  Our account has picture messages enabled so they should come through just fine.

When receiving a picture message, it displays the following in the text field:

<Subject: New Message> - Your request cannot be processed, Internal Error

Any ideas on why this is happening?  Is it a network outage?

  • I saw Nick's post & decided to try mine again.  I shut down my phone & restarted it.  I still had some group texts - initially, i got an error (different from before), but an hour or two later, the ones from the last couple of days downloaded fine.  Older ones did not, but i suppose that's to be expected.  Anyway, i'm cautiously optimistic,

  • @Nick, thank you for letting us know. I've taken your information down and passed it along. We may reach out to you in the future.

@Evan I've added your information to our list of affected LG Marquees. Hang tight, we're working very diligently on a resolution

@Scott The LG Optimus Elite does not have the same problem, but if you run into any issues, please, please reach out to us so we can help troubleshoot the device.

@Nan Are you referring to group SMS messages (text messages) or MMS? If it's the latter, we may reach out to you as well.

  • Brennan, they are group texts sent from an iPhone. My understanding is that these come through as MMS messages.  Up until yesterday, I've been receiving the same error described earlier in this thread whenever I tried to download those messages.

  • Thanks for replying Nan. By any chance, are you using an app to receive the group texts?

  • Brennan, originally I was using whatever came with the phone.  But I switched to Go SMS Pro shortly after discovering this thread as it would let me continue download attempts where the original app would try only once & display the error instead of a download button.  So I haven't tried the original sms program recently - my success was using Go SMS Pro.

  • Mine was first doing a hard reset (power off, take battery out and wait a few minutes). Power back on, turned on both wifi & 3g, reset the mmsc back to sprints original address, updated the profile & url, rebooted and changed the mmsc back to plspictures and its been working since.  My thinking is that the sprint addy and updates - updated whatever was missing under our ting addy. Got pictures from my vzw phone and my kids vzw iphone. Will post any changes as they happen.  w

  • I tried Warren's suggestion and it still doesn't work for me.  I was also having problems with group messages from iPhone users.  I also discovered that if I try to send a mms, it looks like everything went through just fine from my end, but the person I sent it to gets nothing; not even an indication that I tried to send a message to them.

  • I'm using the stock messaging app, by the way.  I tried a different one months ago, but uninstalled it after only a couple weeks.

  • Update - received another group text overnight - tried downloading (a few times) this morning & received the error.  Powered phone completely off, then back on.  Message downloaded fine.   Not sure exactly what that means, but maybe it'll be helpful.

  • Wise people: I am now looking for a "new" (not literally new) device that will support functions I need and will allow me to stay with Ting. Is there something fundamental that I should look for that would help me avoid these issues in the future? NOTE: I do NOT mean avoid MMS issues specifically---I mean, avoid a situation where Ting is at the mercy of Sprint to solve a technical issue (assuming that this is in fact the situation we are currently in; I can't say that I understand what is going on from the technical or the business relationship standpoint) and we Ting subscribers end up waiting indefinitely for resolution or some sort of statement like, "This will not work and we will no longer support it. Move on."

My husband posits that at the heart of the current problem is that the LG Marquee is running an obsolete Android OS and that I should look for a phone that runs Ice Cream Sandwich (?).

Is that accurate? Or is (was) the Marquee just a lousy device (please see: LAME BATTERY LIFE)? Do I risk putting myself in this situation again with all refurb devices and therefore should spend the $$$ for a brand new phone? Can anyone help me understand so I can ditch this phone ASAP but get something that doesn't disappoint me again?

  • Hey everyone,

We may have found a workaround for getting MMS working on the LG Marquee. We are looking for some Marquee users who are having trouble with MMS to help us test this.

    Here are the steps:

    1. Install the Go SMS Pro app from the Google play store:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jb.gosms&hl=en

    1. Open up settings, tap advanced

    2. Set your max MMS size, 500k is what we used.

    3. Tap/Checkmark "Fill User Profile URL manually", a "User Profile URL" will open just below it, go ahead and manually enter this URL:  http://device.sprintpcs.com/LG/LS855/LS855ZVC.rdf

    4. Tap/Checkmark "Fill APN configuration manually"

    5. Tap the MMSC and enter in this URL:  http://mms.plspictures.com

    6. Tap MMS proxy, set this to: 68.28.31.7

    7. Tap MMS Port, set this to: 80

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Work around does not work for mine.

  • Simply installing the Go SMS Pro app on my Marquee made MMS work again. I didn't even have to change the settings as outlined above. However, Go SMS Pro is getting annoying and I would love to be able to return to the stock messaging app soon. Seems like this workaround may be a temporary solution for some, but even if it does work it still requires the use of a third-party app.

  • The new workaround worked on my phone for a picture message a friend sent me. I haven't gotten a group message yet, so don't know if it will work then as well or not.

  • The workaround worked at first, but after receiving 2 picture messages, it quit working again. Same error message as before.

  • @Abram King

If you have wifi turned on try turning it off and see if this helps?

  • With Wifi turned off I simply get an error message asking me to "please check that the network is available". I presume because I also have data disabled?

  • Yea data is needed for mms to come across, I dont know if any messaging app will use wifi to send or receive mms.  Also I don't know why go sms pro seems to not like wifi.  But it is worth a try to enable mobile data and disable wifi just to see if it works.

  • @ Cody - can you describe what is annoying? I just download the app/workaround am awaiting for the battery to recharge (imagine that) in order to play a bit. So, in the meantime, I'm curious...

  • Workaround does not work for me with or without wifi. Also rebooted the phone. Get the same error.

  • I enabled data and was able to receive a picture message. I'm a smart phone novice, how do I ensure I don't start wracking up data usage while utilizing this work around?

  • I'm pretty sure that picture msging doesn't count toward your data.

  • Bummer :( The "workaround" din't work for me. I'm pretty sure I followed the Ting instructions faithfully.

Here's a thought - is there any way Ting can create a service order (or something) with Sprint and I can physically take the phone to a nearby Sprint store/service center and they can update the phone?

    Many thanks for your consideration.

  • Hi Scott, unless you're connected to wi-fi, sending an MMS message will count as usage towards your data.

  • Update. I tried on person's (Warren ?)  suggestion of powering off and taking out the battery. With battery placed back in, and powered on, I went back through the Ting recommendations of updating MMS URL etc from May to today. Additionally, in Go SMS Pro settings,  I selected Go SMS Pro as the default send/receive. AND finally received a picture message! Exciting! Keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to be successful. Many thanks for all of the suggestions. - Shelly

  • Testing on mine.  Oh for those not working you might want to double check the settings.... Auto Correct failed on mine, it changed device.sprintpcs.com to device.sprinters.com and mms.plspictures.com to mms.pictures.com
