Cannot receive picture messages on phones (LG Marquee)
Answered

I cannot receive picture messages on my LG Marquee phone.  My wife has the same phone and is experiencing the same issue that began yesterday.  Our account has picture messages enabled so they should come through just fine.

When receiving a picture message, it displays the following in the text field:

<Subject: New Message> - Your request cannot be processed, Internal Error

Any ideas on why this is happening?  Is it a network outage?

  • The go SMS pro workaround works for me over 3G but not off wifi. Is there a setting for that?

  • How long does it take Go SMS Pro to install? Status bar has been "working" for the last 45+ minutes. Now what? I have already taken battery out and powered back on, gone back to Play Store to install---and it looks like the download/install is "still working".

  • In fact, nothing is even downloading, I don't think. Just looks like my phone is trying to connect to a server (?) in order to download the app. What that means about my phone or the network is a mystery to me, but this is turning out to be a non-working workaround.

  • UPDATE! "GO SMS Pro could not be downloaded due to an error. (923)"

So this workaround is not working for me. Definitively,

Can you access anything data related, ex. web pages, anything else on play store...?  If it is still showing as downloading or in a weird state you might have to go into settings on the phone and click applications, manage applications, find google play store and clear cache and clear data.  I just did it to my phone and all it did was ask me to accept the agreement again when I went back into the play store.  This should get the go sms pro download out of that weird state.  Then try to download it again.  Let us know.

  • Mark - yes, web pages are working. Did as you said (cleared cache and data in applications - both for Google Play Store as well as Google Play Services - and the app did start downloading. But I have been stuck at 40% for the last 15 minutes. Have not had this problem downloading apps before, though in fairness, I've only downloaded two (Juice Defender and an app to check whether my kid's soccer class has been rained out).

  • @Jennifer:

To clear Google Play you should just have to do it on the Google Play Store.  I guess the next question is can you download any apps?  Try a game or something that is free, like words with friends, angry birds....anything.  Let us know.

  • @Mike (sorry I addressed you as Mark earlier) -

Can't seem to download another app either. Very slow, gets hung up at some point, never to recover. What does this mean? That the Sprint network is all busy and stuff? I give up.

  • I did as directed by Brad and am now able to receive MMS messages but I can't send them out.  The recipient of my MMS message never gets any indication that I've tried to send them something.  It even appears on my phone as though it's been successfully sent.

  • A little more detail.  I sent a a photo to an iPhone user and they got the photo.  I sent a photo to my wife who also has a Marquee and she never got an message.  I sent one to my mom who also has a Ting Marquee and she never received the message.  If I send to my phone from my mom's phone, I don't get anything.  If I send to my phone from my wife's phone I get the photo.  So there's something wrong with sending photos from my Marquee and my mom's Marquee, but my wife's is working just fine.

It sounds to me like one of two things, either you are having data issues on your phone or your google play app is messed up.  I would say either try wifi to download it, or go to a different part of town and try it so you are on a different cell tower.

On the other hand if it is a google play store issue you could go the route of installing Amazon App Store and downloading Go Sms Pro through Amazon App Store.

    @Daren

Did you do the workaround on all three of your marquees?

  • I tried the workaround with Go SMS Pro on my phone and the message came through with the same error as before (there wasn't even a download button this time, just the error). I did it over WiFi because I never use data. Therefore, this workaround is useless to me if it isn't going to work with WiFi. I didn't have a data plan with Verizon before switching to Ting and I was able to send and receive picture and video messages without any charge to data usage. Why is that the case with Ting? Why can't picture and video messages just be charged towards text messages? When I had a "dumbphone" with Verizon, there was no data or wifi required to send these messages. Just curious.

  • The workaround worked for me just fine on Wifi. Sorry to those still having trouble!

  • This workaround is working for me via 3G. It's not on wifi, but I've never been able to send/receive picture msgs via wifi on this phone. Any reason why? My wife's Samsung Transform Ultra has no problem sending/receiving MMS via wifi.

  • Same as many others - mine does work on 3G with the workaround, but nothing on wifi despite multiple attempts. Unfortunately this is as good as useless to me since I'm on wifi 95% of the day.

  • @ Mike

I didn't do anything to my wife's phone since it seems to be operating correctly (Don't fix it if it ain't broken).  I haven't bothered with my mom's phone because I didn't think it was necessary until I got my phone working like my wife's phone is working.  It would be confusing for her to have her texting app changed.  She's not very tech savvy.  There's not a need to cause confusion unless I know it's actually going to solve the problem.

    @Everyone else

I've never been able to send or receive MMS without turning on the 3G on this phone.  Or at least I do not recall a time when I was able to.  Should I have been?  I'm also curious why I was able to send and receive MMS on a "dumb phone" without data but am now required to have data turned on to send and receive them.  I know my phone was capable of getting online in a limited fashion, so maybe it was being sent and received through the data network and I just wanted being billed for it.

  • Has anyone else verified that they can send MMS messages and not just receive them?  I was able to send to an iPhone without issue after implementing the workaround, but sending to other Marquee phones (including one that seems to be working correctly) doesn't seem to work.

  • This workaround didn't work on my phone. I am still unable to receive MMS messages after following all the steps.

  • I just found this, and did the work around. I can still only receive regular texts, anything with a picture doesn't come through at all. Now I'm not even getting the message or error code. I'm not sure what to do.

  • Got it to work on 1 out of 3 Marquee's.  Only working on the one i tried right away.  The one can send and receive fine.    removing app on other two since it is giving a double notification and still not working.  compared settings from the first to the other 2 and still no go.

  • Hi folks! I just found this thread and am glad to realize that I'm not the only person having issues. I am running a customized rom, and for the past month figured that I had messed up my phone. I want to add to the discussion becasue something changed today:

-In late May, I lost ability to receive MMS. I just dealt with it for the next month becasue I was busy and didn't want to goof around with my phone.

-In late June, I did a factory reset and reloaded my custom rom. This fixed the problem magically! -On July 10(today), MMS messages stopped working again. The above fix posted by Brad did not work, and my second factory reset did not work this time. (I noticed a similar change that Adam observed above in that I no longer get a "download" button on MMS messages any longer)

Did anybody else experience a temporary return of their MMS messaging abilities? Did anybody else lose that ability today?

Thanks for your efforts, Ting. I hope that you are still working on a solution to this problem. Your customers appreciate your efforts, but we will truly love you once we get a true solution :)

  • Tried the Go SMS Pro workaround on a stock LG Marquee. A message sent over 3G was received, but no messages were received. WiFi did not work for send or receive. The other phone tested with is an Evo 4G also on Ting.

  • Clevin, the LG-Ls855 is the LG Marquee that is experiencing problems receiving MMS messages (which is the main point of this whole thread actually). Check out Brad's suggestion on page 2 of this thread as a possible temporary workaround, but otherwise we're still looking into a fix for the issue.

  • @Brad I'm trying to use Go SMS Pro to work around this problem on my LG Optimus S.  Do you have the User Profile URL for this device?

  • Hi all,

Wanted to give an update as to where we are at on this issue.

We continue to work with other parties on various solutions. The workaround posted earlier this week is but one path of inquiry we are exploring. Critically, we got one piece of the puzzle that should allow us to better troubleshoot the issue next week.

We were encouraged that the GOSMS work around was successful for some of you. We are still working on refining that as well. If you tried the GOSMS work around and it did NOT work for you, and you are willing to help us do further testing, please contact brad at ting.com.

I apologize for the continued issues, we are continuing to work this actively. As Ben said last week, please contact customer support if MMS is an urgent issue for you and we will find a solution for you.

    Thanks!
