Cannot receive picture messages on phones (LG Marquee)
Answered

I cannot receive picture messages on my LG Marquee phone.  My wife has the same phone and is experiencing the same issue that began yesterday.  Our account has picture messages enabled so they should come through just fine.

When receiving a picture message, it displays the following in the text field:

<Subject: New Message> - Your request cannot be processed, Internal Error

Any ideas on why this is happening?  Is it a network outage?

  • I have also attempted the workaround with my wife's phone as well as mine. In both cases, it did not work over 3G or wifi.

I am at the point of giving up since there is no end in sight.

  • the workaround seems to have been successful for me (at least for picture messages; haven't yet received a group text). i did have to disable 'notifications' in the default messaging app before it worked.

still hoping for a fix on this issue, as i'm not a fan of gosms pro and would prefer not to have to use it. nevertheless, happy to again be receiving mms messages.

  • I am looking for someone to contact me who has a Marquee with this MMS issue and has a rooted device/ has the capability or knowledge to root their device.

I have something I would like to test. Please email me: Brad@ting.com if you fall into this criteria and would like to help out.

    Thanks!

  • If this continues to remain an issue is there anyway to return our LG marquees which we purchased from Ting for a different phone that is allowed to received picture messages?

  • I am having this issue as well and the fix has not worked.

@Brad I don't know what you mean by rooted device but with decent instructions I feel confident I could figure it out.

  • Derick, we'll cross that bridge if we come to it. In the meantime, if you really do need MMS now, please give us a call or email and we'll discuss the best course of action for you.

  • I'll tell ya, it's a real pain with this fix. If you forget to turn on 3G/Data (I use wifi almost exclusively) and you click to Download a picture, it bombs, and you can't try redownloading it once you're on Data. Any workarounds for that?

  • Hi,

I've been having this same problem for months. Can I be added to the list?

    Thanks.

  • I am looking for a few people to help us continue MMS testing. If interested (it will require a call with one of our support agents) can you please email me at Brad@ting.com so we can set up a time/day? Only requirement is to have the Marquee with either a MMS sending, or receiving issue.

    Thanks!

  • @Brad

I just emailed you. I have a rooted Marquee. I emailed you July 17 after your request for rooted Marquees, but received no response.

  • Update: After implementing the workaround of July 9th (per Brad), I was able to receive group texts for 1-2 weeks. Just a few days ago, I started getting the error messages again --- intermittently, not consistently. Workaround is not 100% working.

  • I wanted to thank everyone for contacting me to help with some testing. I have received a great response and have set up calls throughout this week, I will keep everyone updated on how it goes and will post my findings here. There are a few settings we will test in the GOSMSPro app to try and solve the question as to why the app works for some but not for others.

I have had a good amount of people test out a fix that requires your device to be rooted. This fix is very technical and will require a high knowledge of cellphones as well as a rooted device. If you would like this fix emailed to you, drop me a line at Brad@ting.com. This fix is working and is solving the issue in the majority of cases.

We appreciate everyone for bearing with us. We will continue to push and use all our resources to find a solution to this issue.

  • The GoSMS Pro fix isn't working for me anymore. My sister tried to send me an MMS picture message yesterday, and I got the error. Since I don't like that app, I went ahead an uninstalled it. Can't wait to hear if a fix is finally found. :)

  • I have a Marquee that i am transferring from my parents account to my account with a new number.  i did a factory reset, and brought it up on Ting without issues.  My tests of the MMS were successful.  Have others been able to fix theirs with a factory reset?

  • Please add me to the list. I cannot receive or send picture messages. This started on July 25th and hasn't worked since. Please keep me updated on how to resolve this issue. I have 1 LG Marquee on my account.

  • Oddly I am now seeing this on my Marquee. I just reactivated it after switching to an S2 months ago. It worked fine before I switched to the S2 and deactivated the Marquee. Has there been any news on this?

  • I tried the workaround, but I can't get my device to root correctly.  I've been using Framaroot, version 1.3 and it states that it was successful, but Root Checker continues to state that is hasn't.

  • The GoSMS Pro option did not work on our two phones. In our case, if an image was sent, we would not receive the text at all.

  • Well, after such a long time, with no real solution, I'd say you have reached the "BRIDGE", and it's time to cross it!!!  An equal or upgraded phone replacement seems like a fair way to resolve the issue, and keep us Ting customers satisfied.

  • Hey everyone,

So I am working with a number of people on the root fix I posted earlier in this thread. Things are looking promising, we are receiving a good success rate. However, some people are getting stuck and I want to ensure everyone who tries this fix is successful without the need for an agent to intervene in the process. I will be finishing up testing on this for this week and hope to have this processed formalized for everyone. I am always happy to take on new testers, if you would like to help me test this fix please email at brad@ting.com.

I apologize for the delay, and I appreciate everyone for their support and patience. Please contact customer support if MMS is an urgent issue for you and we will find a solution.

  • I've always used GoSMS and I've had this problem since it started. I'm just now in the mindset that I can no longer receive picture messages and have lost all hope that this will be fixed. Thank you for trying, but I guess this is what I get for going the cheaper route. I think some part of me knew something like this would happen.

Question, am I getting charged for the errors as messages still? My friends always like sending me pictures for some reason, even though I've endlessly told them "I can't receive pictures, please stop sending me those because all I see is an error message." >_<

  • By "cheaper route" I mean the cheap as hell phone I bought that I constantly want to chuck out my car window and then flip my car onto just before shooting the thing that makes cars explode in the movies. The cheap Ting plan so far has been satisfactory.

  • Hey Meta,

Messages are counted on a network level, so when you receive the message in your inbox on your phone, it will still count towards your text message bucket. So while the picture message will not successfully open, it will count towards your monthly total of messages received. If this is really impacting your message tiers, please shoot us an email at help@ting.com. We are working really hard to get this resolved, so thank you very much for your patience!

  • @Chi, according to Katie Lai of Ting (comment of June 12, 2013 19:04, in response to my question about whether these non-received messages are counting toward my monthly Ting bill):

@Jennifer - any MMS sent/received does not count as a text - the file size contributes towards data usage. The messages you are not receiving therefore are not contributing to your data usage!

So, do these messages count toward our data or message tiers, or don't they?

  • Hey peeps! I just want to say that agents Brad and Mike did a fantastic job troubleshooting my LG Marquee and have successfully got the thing working for me. They worked tirelessly to solve my problem, as I'm sure the rest of the Ting Customer Service staff base is doing as well. Please be patient with them as they mainstream the solution to this problem!!

There is currently a fix for the stock ROM and also now for the CTMoD 3.8 ROM that I've been running on my phone since its finalization. I can confirm that it has been successful and am now happily receiving pictures from my friends along with the unwanted iPhone messages from my annoying coworkers!

Thanks again, Ting, as always you offer great product with great service. Keep being awesome.

  • @Carla:  Thanks for the heads-up!  We're running CTMod on both our LG Marquees so this is welcome news.

  • @Jennifer, These failed messages shouldn't be counting towards either data or text usage. If you notice that they are being recorded on either tier, let us know and someone will adjust that for you.

  • Carla, you mentioned there is a fix for the stock ROM.  Would it be possible to post that fix within this thread?
