Are there knows issues with the s2 and airave?
Answered

I have three phones in my household and just got an airave.  Two of the phones connect brilliantly, but my wife's samsung galaxy s2 doesn't seem to be connecting.  It does not show bars and continues to function as if in a low signal environment.  Any suggestions?

  • No issues that I'm aware of. Have you tried rebooting the Airave?

  • I rebooted and also did a hard reset (the recessed button on the back.)  No results.  It's as though the airave isn't there for the s2.

  • I suspect there could be an issue with the software of the Galaxy S2. Have you been able to connect the S2 to other wi-fi networks?

You can attempt a factory restore/wipe to try and correct the problem. Please be advised that you will want to back up your device before starting. A factory restore will erase all local data on your S2.

    1) Enter   # # 7 8 6 #   into your dialpad

    2) Click on "Reset" and enter your MSL code (the MSL can be found under your phone number in the Devices tab of your Ting account)

    3) The phone will reboot

  • I tried it, with no apparent success.  The S2 connects to wifi and other networks just fine, but doesn't seem to see the airave.

  • Any chance the airave itself is blocking.  I know my airave with sprint had the ability to log in and limit access to only my phones if I wanted to.  If ting supplied device not sure this would be an issue.

  • That's a great question, Doug.  From the surfing around that I have done, apparently sprint had a setup where you could log in and change settings on an airave.  I don't know how, or it, I can do that with ting.  It seems the obvious place to check, but I have no idea how to access the device settings.

  • We/you don't have the ability to manage priority access (a 50 phone number whitelist) in the Airave settings through sprint.com. It's an interesting proposition, but it is currently not a priority for our network accessibility through Sprint. I'll have to get back to you on possible solutions, hopefully someone from the forums will have an answer for you.

  • I talked to sprint today, and they said that they don't have the ability to support this, since the number is through ting.  He suggested I ask if there is support available through the manufacturer, if it cannot be provided by ting.  I'd really like to resolve this, since the airave doesn't do me any good if it doesn't work for my phone.

  • Was this issue with airave every resolved?

Thinking of getting the Ting galaxy s2 titanium but it would need to work with my airave.  Just wondering if its some problem with this specific account/phone or a bigger s2 problem.

  • @Doug,

We just needed to add the phone to the Airave's list of accepted phone numbers, then do a reset on the Airave and on every phone. It seems to be working so far, and Daniel has promised to give me a week-after check in just to make sure we're still in business! If you find you have any troubles while getting the S2 set up, you can always give us a call at 1-855-846-4389 or send an email to help@ting.com.
