Google Search keeps randomly opening on my Galaxy SII
Answered

The google search app keeps randomly opening on my Galaxy SII - most of the time I am not even touching the phone when it opens up.

Any ideas on how to stop this from happening?

  • How long has this been happening? Also, have you tried a full reboot of the phone since it began? If not, do try that.

  • It has been happening for the last 3-4 days - I have only had the phone active for a week.  I have tried rebooting the phone and even moved the google search shortcut off of my main home screen just to make sure I wasn't accidentally hitting it even though a couple of the times I wasn't even touching the phone when it popped up.  It is a refurbished phone - not sure if that has something to do with it...

  • I also notice that my battery seems to drain twice as fast as my husband's - he has a new Galaxy SII where mine is the refurbished.  We have exactly the same things on the phone (both have weather bug) but have the settings turned off on 4G and mobile data and have only turned the wifi on at home.

  • I have the same problem and additionally, the menu window keeps opening -all while just sitting on my desk - I got this Galaxy Sii 2 months ago and it is getting so bad that I cannot even use the phone sometimes - more often than not it seems.

  • Hi Terry.

If the problem persists after rebooting the phone, we might have to reset it back to its factory defaults to clear any misconfigured settings that could be causing this behavior. We emailed you some instructions on how to do that. Let us know if that still continues after following those instructions.

  • I bought a new Galaxy SII in April and now google search opens on it own along with random menu opening and closing repeatedly. Was there ever a fix found for this or do I need to do a factory reset?

  • Hi Kelly.  We do recommend attempting a factory reset to resolve this issue.  If you need any help with it, please give us a call or click the blue chat button - it's at the bottom right of many pages on our site.

  • Thanks Wendy! I do have a few questions before I reset the phone but I cannot find a blue chat window on the mobile app or the full site... maybe I am not looking in the right place. I tried to back-up my photos to my desktop but can only few some of the albums to be able to save them. And I would like to save my favorites on chrome too, along with my contacts. Is there a way to transfer them to my sd card?

  • Hi Kelly.   If you have an SD card, in your contacts you should see a menu item to export your contacts to the SD card.  Each phone is a bit different - if you check you manual, it should tell you how to make sure all your other data is backed up.
