Is there a way I can change phones and keep my number I currently have?
Yes, but you'll need to call Ting customer service when you're setting up the new phone. I don't think they have that automated on the site yet.
Hey Bill and Brian,
Moving an existing Ting number to a new device can now be done through your Ting account. Just activate the device and on the Phone Number page you will have the option to "Swap one of my active Ting phone numbers to this device" : )
Wow, that's cool that you added that. It seemed to be one of the most common things people asked about and always had to be directed to call. So "Ting FTW" isn't just a cool phone number.
is this still accurate? how do i activate my new device?
We have a handy guide on how to activate using an existing Ting number that should guide you through the process right from your account. If you have any trouble please just reach out here and let me know what error you are seeing or get in touch with our support team for help.
My son is getting a new phone and I want to exchange my phone for his old phone. Can I just swap my Ting card from my old phone and put it in his old phone? Please explain what I need to do?
On our GSM network it is that easy so you should be able to move his SIM from his current phone to his new phone (assuming its GSM compatible and unlocked) and then move your SIM to his phone - Though we would suggest you each back up your phones first so you can easily restore that saved information to your new phones. One suggestion I would make if you're still shopping for that new device is to look at getting a factory unlocked model (as opposed to a carrier specific/branded model) that is compatible with all of the main networks/big 4 carriers as that will ensure you will always have the most flexibility going forward.
