Caller ID from our phones shows other names, not us
Answered

Can you help? The caller ID that shows up when my husband calls from his new cell phone is "Sharon Potter" and my calls

show up as "City of Minneapolis."   How to get our phones to show our names to people we call?

  • Hi Dori, you can perform a carrier reset on your device to update the network information on your phone.

    1. Open the dial pad and enter: # # 7 2 7 8 6 #
    2. Enter your MSL (this can be found by clicking your phone number under the Device Settings)
    3. Select: OK
    4. Your device will reboot

In terms of customiation with Caller ID on a network level, we currently don't have the capability to do this for mobile-to-mobile phone calls. However, it is possible for calls to landlines. If you're interested, contact us and we'll have this updated.

Also, for smartphone users such as yourself, the Caller ID can match the number with a person in your contact list. It even takes priority over the network Caller ID display.

  • Does anyone know how long it takes for the carrier reset to happen once you've done the above? Maybe I'm impatient, it's only been 24 hours. Our landline shows the Ting device as the old owner of the number.

  • Brennan,

The carrier reset just tells the phone to reactivate in the cellular network.

The OP is talking about the caller ID when a Ting phone calls a land-line.

According to a posting at  https://help.ting.com/entries/20835613-Caller-ID Ting can get this reset.

If I would call or email Ting to get the caller ID changed.

  • So there is no real solution to the OP's request? I am just running into the same issue - I just successfully activated a BYOD with Ting for my daughter, got a new number, but when I tested it calling our land line (Verizon), it shows a stranger's full name !  My wife and I didn't like this at all..  I plan to add 2 more devices soon (for me and my wife) - is Ting saying that there is no way to have our names shown instead as the Caller ID to all the land lines we call? I noticed there is no way to assign separate names to each phone on the account -- except for the "nickname", which I suppose cannot be used for Caller ID..

If that's the case (and quite disappointing), can we at least have "Unavailable" shown instead ?

  • When I first emailed that our new Ting phones did not correctly identify us as the callers to land line phones I did try the fix you suggested;

the caller ID still puts in the stranger names originally attached to the phone numbers we selected for our smart phones with Ting.  I get it that this is a network problem -- but I agree with GEO -- can you get the names at least revised to "unavailable" when we call land lines???
