  • New Ting user here, and with a Galaxy Nexus. I purchased this phone specifically to test the Ting service, and am having the exact same data drop issues. For me, it seems to even with my home wireless. It won't update that I have emails and usually won't let me surf Google+ either. It will let me surf web pages when the other two will not.

Reboot the phone, and it will work again for a short period of time (few hours?). While travelling anywhere around town it can show full 4G bars, but won't connect to any data. Sometimes I can turn airplane mode on for a minute then off and it will start working. Other times I have to reboot the phone and it will start working.

I'm going to try a factory reset tonight and see if that works. I know it's not a reflection of Ting's service but it is frustrating none the less.

  • Hey Jacob,

Once you have re-activated your device after the factory reset, it would be a good idea to update the prl and data profile of your device (settings > system updates). Feel free to contact our support team if you need any additional help.

  • Thanks Renny - after I performed a factory reset I did nothing else (no updates). Everything seems to be working quite well at this point.

Is it required to do the PWL and data update? I'd be nervous to break what is currently working fine.

  • Hi Jacob,

If your device is working fine after the factory reset, you don't have to do anything else. As you mentioned, why try to fix something that isn't broken!

  • Just wanted to add to Jacob's post - I did a factory reset and the Nexus is performing MUCH better. Battery life is about 95% of what it was before and 4G seems to be pretty solid in my area (22802).

  • UPDATE: 5 days now and the battery life is much improved. I would recommend a hard reset to everyone that still has issues with 3G/4G swapping and shortened battery life.
