Are all HTC EVO 4G LTE phones APX325CKT
Answered

Hi,

I'm want to buy a HTC EVO 4G LTE  Sprint phone from a friend and was confused by the APX325CKT listed in your whitelist of HTC phones.  Are all HTC EVO 4G LTE "Sprint" phones the same?  If not, what is the easiest way for me to check?

Thanks!

  • Hey Herbert, APX325CKT is one of many different model numbers for the HTC EVO 4G LTE. To find out what your model number is, you can likely check the box of the phone or contact us with your ESN/MEID for verification.

Not all Sprint phones are the same. For example, a "Sprint" phone may be branded to Virgin Mobile - a brand we cannot activate on Ting.

  • Brennan, can you be more specific? Although you say that "APX325CKT is one of many different model numbers for the HTC EVO 4G LTE" as far as I've ever seen anywhere there are only two for Sprint:

          APX325CKT for black and

          APX325CWH for white

Have you ever seen any other model numbers for Sprint-branded HTC Evo 4G LTE devices? The answer is important because when browsing eBay it's easy to find Sprint-branded HTC EVO 4G LTE devices, but no seller specifies the model #.

    Thanks,

    David

p.s. HTC's own product page for the Sprint EVO 4G LTE (http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-evo-4g-lte/) has no mention of a model #.

  • Try this: Browse to search.sprint.com, on the top right in the search box type apx325ckt -- there are a number of hits which strongly infer that the APX325C (a.k.a. HTC X325C) refers to the EVO 4G LTE.

  • Henry - there's no doubt that APX325CKT refers to the Sprint-compatible device. It's the *other* direction I was worried about: Is it possible that the "Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE" device that I just bought off of eBay *isn't* an APX325CKT, and that it therefore wouldn't be compatible with Ting? As I mentioned, nobody on eBay (or the other used device resale sites) mentions the model number.

  • Hey David!

If you're concerned about the phone not being able to work on Ting just send us the ESN of the phone (found under the battery labeled as DEC) and we will verify the model number and check for support.

    I hope this helps!

  • Hi Paraic,

Thanks for the kind offer. Sending you the ESN is pretty straightforward for a phone that you have in hand. But it's not so easy when browsing phones to buy on eBay. Many vendors are retailers who post listings by the batch, so getting specific ESN's pre-purchase is a hurdle. Not to mention a big friction factor when evaluating lots of listings.

Is there anyone at Ting who would like to take a stab at answering the key question: "Are there any Sprint-branded HTC EVO 4G LTE phones that aren't compatible with Ting?"

To review the questions that are already answered about HTC EVO 4G LTE devices:

    1) Yes, if it's not a Sprint-branded HTC EVO 4G LTE, stop there.

    2) Yes, if you can get the model number and it's an APX325CKT or a APX325CWH, you're good.

    3) Yes, if you can get the specific ESN of the device of interest, you can run that past Ting to be extra sure.

I'm pretty sure that the answer is that all Sprint branded HTC EVO 4G LTE phones are APX325CKT or APX325CWH. If that's true, it really simplifies the purchase process for those of use who'd like to grab one and light it up on Ting. For example, at the moment there are 250 listings for Sprint-branded HTC EVO 4G LTE phones on eBay. If you can confirm that we're good as long as we get the Sprint-branded one, that'd be great.

  • Hey David!

I wish it was as simple as just a Sprint branded phone with those models. Sprint has an active database of all the phones that is registered with them and their MVNO's. This is what decides whether the phone will activate or not. I could look up those model numbers and tell you that yes it is supported and you could purchase a Sprint branded Boost phone (for example). We'd then not be able to activate it and you'd have to go through the return process with eBay. I can tell you though that those models ARE supported with us.

And also, please forgive my last response. I thought you had already purchased the phone.

  • Yes, let's leave the MVNOs out of it. I understand that the MVNOs might have tweaked things. No Boost, no Virgin, etc.

Are there any purely-Sprint-branded non-MVNO HTC EVO 4G LTE devices that aren't compatible?

  • Not from what I can see.

The exact models that we support are as follows

    APX325CKT

    RECX325CT1

    APX325CWH

    RECC325CK1

    I hope this helps!

  • David -- ah, I understand now. I've bought a number of fleabay phones and they all worked without incident (but only one EVO 4G LTE so far). Hopefully your seller(s) will be cooperative and supply you with the ESN, or will state that the phone has never been flashed to Boost, or whatever. If you are materially misled, ebay/paypal buyer protection does a decent job of undoing any damage.
