  • I am having the same problem as Kia with my Nexus 5 when I try to do a Carrier Wipe following your instructions, I get Error #16, Switch 386.  I tried using *#*#72786#*#* as suggested and had the same problem.

  • Hey Kay, You are getting error code 16 because your device is having some trouble communicating with the network. We recommend that you manually program your device to get it up and running.  Look for an email with a few simple steps from a member of our support team.

  • Last I tried, I got the Error #16, Switch 386 message. For the heckuv it, I tried to make a call, and it went through successfully. Do I need to manually program my Nexus 5 now?

  • Hey Ashley. Depending on your device, the # # 72786 # will prompt your phone to restart and try to go through the activation cycle once it comes back on.  I tried to locate your account through your email address but couldn't find any devices under that account. Could you  submit a support request through this link with details about your device and account so we can look at that for you? Please submit as much details as possible as to what's happening.

  • Hello, I am having a similar issue. When I dial SCRTN, the only message I get is "Your account could not be validated. Please contact customer service message 5, switch 116".

  • Hi Jess,

I see that you submitted a help request and Kurtis is helping you out. You are in good hands! For anybody else viewing this thread, if the Sprint activation codes are not working on your device (# # SCRTN # or # # MSL #) it's likely because you are not on the stock Sprint ROM. Reverting to stock firmware should allow you to activate without any problems.

  • When you rest the phone does it completely rest it? Like delete everything?

  • This thread is discussing a carrier reset which just resets the information for communicating with the network. Your data should be safe.

A factory reset deletes all your data and downloaded apps.

  • Hi Kaylen.  Bruce is correct.  Except for on a couple of devices such as the Galaxy Note IIs, the carrier reset is non-destructive and your data and contacts should be fine.

  • I was having the same issue, but was able to sort it through Sam C.'s link to here: https://ting.zendesk.com/entries/30222656-Completing-Your-Nexus-5-Activation

All it took was manually updated the Profile and PRL and calls/texts started going through. If there is something else I should do now... haha, please let me know!

  • Hello. I have a Galaxy S5 Sprint and i wanted to change the phone number because i am not on Sprint anymore and i clicked on # #SCRTN# in the activation menu.

The phone reset and with the new SIM card it says INVALID SIM CARD.

I mention that the phone is not SIM Blocked at the moment and also this sim worked before i did # #SCRTN#.

I did not try another Sprint SIM card to see what happenes.

Anybody have any idea on what to do?

    Thank you

  • Hey Gabriel!

When you are in a different country and not using a Sprint or Ting CDMA sim card, that carrier reset would not work as it only applies to the Sprint network. In order for your phone to recognize your sim card again, follow these steps in this article, you should be able to get it working properly once you unlock the UICC: https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205422098-International-SIM-Unlock-
