I have an old Samsung Moment that I brought over to Ting to test moving to Ting. Oh, and yes, I am underlining words manually for emphasis, it is not the browser doing so.
Before activating it on Ting, I did a factory reset on it.
After porting over to Ting (Which, by the way, took an incredible 1 minute to do), voice and texting worked instantly after restarting the phone. Data required me to follow instructions to 'Update Account Profile' in the settings, which worked and successfully activated the data connection. I could hit google.com.
Overall, I am incredibly happy with the service for voice and texting. Data is another story. It is not the speed of the data (after all, the moment uses EVDO), its that the data connection drops entirely or 'locks up' on a frequent basis on this phone. Specifically, I defined the previous as:
Data Connection Dropping - meaning the EV symbol in the status bar on the Samsung Moment disappears entirely, and web hosts become unreachable. Restarting the phone or using an app to 'reset' the connection will restore the data connection (EV symbol shows up again). The data connection will not return on its own with out some sort of manual intervention.
Data Connection Lock Up - meaning the EV symbol int he status bar on the Samsung Moment stays on with the upload arrow lit indefinitely. Web hosts become unreachable, and even apps that would normally reset the connection are unable to. Restarting the device is the only fix in this case. The data connection will not return on its own with out some sort of manual intervention.
Having said all of that, I am basically wondering:
a) Is this the Samsung Moment having a... moment?
b) Is this a known issue with Sprint on any phone?
c) Is this a known issue with Ting itself due to no domestic data roaming, and I would experience this with any device on Ting?
d) Has anyone experienced this using the recently white listed iPhone 5?
I want to bring an iPhone 5 over to Ting soon to take advantage of LTE, so further questions are:
1) Does anyone in the North Dallas, TX, area who has a Samsung Moment experience weird data connection dropping issues or 'locking up'?
2) Does anyone in the North Dallas, TX, area who has an LTE enabled device experience weird data connection dropping issues or 'locking up'?
3) Does anyone in the North Dallas, TX, area who has an iPhone 5, experience any data connection dropping issues?
Thank you for taking the time to read this wall of text, and thank you Ting for providing a great service to the people!
