LG G3
Answered

I'm really hyped over the LG G3 but the only thing stopping me from ordering one is that it is currently unavailable on Ting. Is there any estimate on when this phone will be available on BYOD?

  • Hey there Edgar!  Usually it's about a year after a device's release that we can add it to our BYOD list (so, sadly, that one's going to be a while).

  • Well I'm a little confused.. I see you guys sell the galaxy s5 so I'm assuming you support it, yet its not on the byod list???

Will you guys then sell the lg g3?

  • Hi Edgar,

Typically, it takes about a year for a brand new phone, such as the Samsung S5, before it joins the Ting BYOD program. So at the moment you need to purchase the S5 from us if you want to use one on Ting. As for the LG G3, we don't have any updates on selling that device at this time, once we have a new phone ready to join the Ting family, we announce it through our blog

  • Edgar,

That restriction is from Sprint. I am surprised that Sprint allows Ting to provide as much as they do. I believe the most current BYOD phone is the Nexus 5 from the Google Play Store. You would need a Ting SIM too.

  • So if I buy a new LG G3 from ting I can activate it now, on our network, but for ones activated on Sprint, we wait a year?

  • Hi Tom,

That is correct. The Sprint LG G3 is scheduled to be eligible for BYOD on Ting sometime in Aug 2015. You can sign up here to be notified when it becomes available for BYOD on Ting.

  • I bought a LG G3  (Sprint) from Ting store and just activated it 2 days ago. I've accessed it multiple times using the knock code. I was unable to access phone last night using the knock code after 10-12 attempts. During activation / setup it requested a Pin as a backup feature which I also setup. I believe that after 4 failed attempts at knocking screen would change to number pad and let me enter using my Pin. The screen doesn't change. Is anyone else having intermittent issues with their knock code feature on this phone? Trying to determine if issue is with my phone or G3 phones in general. Thanks

  • Tim, fwiw, my wife's G2 never had that problem. And her phone updated to the same overlay as the G3. I doubt you will find many G3s on Ting, due to cost and restrictions. I trust you have checked the LG forums.

  • Peter,

Appreciate feedback. I checked LG forums and mostly issues with used cracked, replaced screens etc. I posted thinking it may have something to do with setup, activation going through Ting and recognizing phone. I wouldn't think so but figured worth inquiry.

I chatted with Ting support (very helpful) and only solution was factory reset. I then chatted with LG support. LG suggested clearing screen lock data and cache (settings>apps>all>screen lock>clear cache, data) remove battery and restart. This didn't work. They then suggested factory reset.

I did factory reset. This time entered a 4 knock code. Original code was 8 as setup suggested higher security. Not sure if interval between taps was stumbling block or activation?? Anyways, knock code with 4 works. Also tried wrong codes and Pin keypad is presented as backup. So all good. Thanks again.

  • HI Tim:  i bet you got it.  I have never seen the 8 pin lock code option on the G2. Always used the four as was provided in setup.   And as you found, it works fine.
