SIM Card Locking & SIM Failure
Answered

So I'm having trouble with my iPhone 5. I activated it about a week ago with a SIM card I bought from Ting. It was working fine for about a week, and then suddenly it came up with the message that the SIM card was locked, and then it would eventually lead to a SIM failure in the top left corner of the screen. This is what I have done so far:

-Reset Network Settings

-Called ##873283#

-Taken Out SIM card (wiped down with cloth)

-Reset All Settings

-Stressed out (didn't work)

-Checked MEID for match (It does match)

-Restarted iPhone

The only thing that I can possibly see it being is that ICCID doesn't match what is in my TIng phone profile.

  • Hi Dan! I see that you were able to solve this issue with Ryan. If anyone experiences the same issue, note that It's very important when activating an iPhone 5_ (or any other device which uses a SIM)_ that the ICC ID is entered correctly and matches the number on your SIM card/in the settings of your device. If your ICC ID on your phone doesn't match what your Device Settings page online says, please let us know so we can help!

  • I fixed the Sim failure error today on my IPhone 6. Tha auto time zone was the main problem. after I changed the time zone, restarted the device and I got the dots.

  • Hi Elizabeth,

There might be a couple different reasons for this to be happening and it would best to do some troubleshooting with the device to figure it out. For that, we would need you to contact our customer support. Since the phone is not working for calls I would suggest using our online chat to get a hold of one of our advisors. We would be able to get you running on the network properly this way.

  • Hello, my samsung note 10 re-boots every morning, and I always get a sim card is locked.  I have to turn off wifi, turn on data and re- boot in data then it works.  How do I correct this?

  • Hi Ron,

That sounds like it may be the issue with the SIM card. If you reach out to our customer support team we can have a new one sent out to you to see if that fixes the issue.

  • had this issue or a similar with an iphone 5s on a CDMA sim card using Ting... was working fine, but then I pulled the sim out and put it in a second iphone 5s, wasn't able to make calls, so called TING support who activated my second iphone 5s which consists of removing the imei of the first phone and registering with the carrier the imei of the second phone that I now want to use.  after this registration process,  the second iphone worked for making calls for a few minutes but then started giving errors of "sim failure" and the upper left corner of the screen said "invalid sim" and could not make calls.  simply rebooting the phone a couple of times fixed this issue for me.  This might have simply been caused by a short delay for the new imei registration to propagate through the carrier's system.

  • Hi Elliot,

That does sound like it was just a delay with our system catching up to our partners so that both are on the same page with each other. I'm glad to hear that it is working now though.

It usually takes a few moments for everything to sort itself out when one moves from an old phone to a new phone but if anyone finds themselves having the issue long after a switch I would suggest reaching out to our customer support who can give a hand and make sure that everything is lining up properly. They are available from 8 am to 1 am ET Monday to Friday and on the weekends from 8 am to 11 pm ET. The contact information can be found here
