Will Ting get the Moto X (2014)?
Answered

I know the new version of the Moto X was just announced yesterday, but any news on when/if Ting might get the new Moto X?

  • As Ting *always*says to these questions! check the Ting blog for device updates! Why do people always ask the same question without searching?

  • Hey Jake! It is definitely good to watch the blog, it's true.  Specifically, I do not have word just yet whether we'll have that exact model.

  • Some of us have other things to do than just watch the Ting blogs.  I too, would appreciate any information Ting has it's disposal (and we assume it's more than we have) that isn't under NDA concerning the new Moto X.  Particularly the "Pure Edition".

  • Ting already thought of that. Go to Ting's main page. Near the bottom, click "Get email updates". Enjoy.

  • Part of having the other things doesn't mean adding to the amount of non-essential email....  Why is it so unreasonable to expect Ting to disclose what it knows (even if it's just an a strong expectation) -- if there's no reason why they can't?

  • Hey David.

We're not disclosing any information about it because we don't have information about it yet. As a rule of thumb, we can't bring any devices from Sprint for one year from when they are released, give or take 30 days. We'll usually get some confirmation about that a few weeks before we can actually bring it, so we're a long way until we have any confirmation about bringing that specific model from Sprint. Once we do, we'll definitely announce it.

If you're thinking about buying it from us, we add devices to our shop as soon as we can reach an agreement to sell them. We have nothing confirmed yet, but if/when we do, you will see it selling from our shop. As Wendy and Bruce said, you could check our blog, sign up for email notifications, or even reach us again if the future if you want another update.

  • The "Pure Edition" is supposed to be "carrier free" (like the Nexus 5), right?  I would not expect a delay in being able to use a carrier free phone, right?  But maybe it only works on AT&T / T-Mobile?  If Ting knows anything about the "Pure Edition" (i.e. whether it will, or will not be, Sprint compatible), why not share it.  If you don't have that information -- isn't it your interest to try and find out?

  • I saw some articles saying the Pure Edition is GSM only. If so, it cannot work on Sprint's network.

  • On CDMA networks, there is no thing as "unlocked" phones (except for the LTE SIM). The carrier controls what device IDs are permitted on the network.

That is why "unlocked" CDMA phones make no sense. That is also why the Google Nexus 5 cannot be used on Verizon's network even though the phone is capable of operating on that network.
