A few customers have already been able to activate the Sharp AQUOS Crystal on Ting. You can find a guide on how to do so by going here.

  • A 5" display WITH AN SD SLOT for just $149 brand new?  This may be even better than the $59 Moto G deal.  I wonder if I can return that extra G I just picked up.  I wonder how long Sprint/Boost will tolerate it, or more positively put, whether this trend will continue with other Boost phones.

  • I just recently purchased the Sprint Prepaid version from Amazon for $129.00. Just activated it today and it all seems to work just great. As some others have pointed out elsewhere, this model does not have the Hotspot app. and may not have that capability. But I never use my phone as a mobile hotspot anyway, so I don't need it. If this phone performs well for more than one year, It's a steal at $130.00.

I say, buy it before the price goes back up and tell us about your experience.

I will comment again If I find any negative to this phone.

  • First of all, thanks for the reply guys. I ended up purchasing the phone from the boost mobile website for about $165 (shipping included). I have been using this phone for about 2 weeks now and all I can say is the phone is great. The phone has that sci-fi looks straight from the future with bezeless display, props to Sharp. I wish all the manufacturers would have gone bezeless display long time ago. The phone feels nice in hand. Everything run smooth, and nearly stock Android. I was surprised by the fact that this phone can run snappy with such a low-mid range processor. I don't play games on my phone that much, I have Nova prime, news republic, google inbox and some other apps and they all runs smooth. Even though the screen is 5 inches, I have no problem using it with one hand, the no bezel design reduces the size of the whole phone by a lot. In comparison, the phone looks smaller than the Motorola Droid Razr HD (4.7"), I would say the Aquos is the smallest 5 inch smartphone out there right now. The battery is great, I work from 7 am and get home around 6 pm. if i only use the phone for calling and regular messaging, the phone is 60% when i get home. Under heavy use, Facebook, connect to Bluetooth, watch YouTube videos, the phone is about 40-50%. I have no complaint about the battery life at all. Since I am a music lover, I bought myself a 128 GB micro SD card. Since the phone is only 4.4.2 so it won't let me move the apps that i installed to the SD card, I really hope this phone get updates to 4.4.4 or possibly Lollipop. The only downside of this phone is the camera. The back camera produces a decent picture under daylight condition, but not so good inside. When taken under low light conditions,  the pictures have lots of noise, and grainy. The front camera is straight out awful, i don't even want to talk about the front camera lol. I will up keep you guys posted when I run into any problems with this phone.

  • Is there any way to get the mobile hotspot feature working with the Sharp Aquos Crystal on Ting? I saw this phone at a Sprint store and it did have mobile hotspot capability. Why wouldn't it work on Ting? Thanks

  • Hey Kevin.  The Sharp Aquos Crystal is not officially supported, so some features like tethering/hotspot will not work at this time. If you need that feature, have a look at our BYOD list of all officially supported devices.

  • If I bring a Sharp Aquos Crystal to Ting via BYOD today, is there any hope that the mobile hotspot feature will be supported in the future?

  • Hey there Kevin, Since this model isn't officially supported it is hard to say. This is something that maybe the group over in Ting  Hacks can help you with.

  • In regards to tethering on the Sharp Aquos Crystal, will any paid third party tethering apps (FoxFi, ClockworkMod, etc.) work on the phone?

  • Hey David,

We haven't tested them, but let's wait and see if any other customers gave that a shot.

  • I'm not sure about whether or not you can add an app to enable hotspot or tethering capability. I never use that anyway, so I don't need it. But I can tell you that as of the time that I am writing this comment, Amazon has the Sharp Aquos Crystal-Sprint Prepaid Version on sale for $129.99. http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-Crystal-Silver-Contract/dp/B00NWYANAI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416018242&sr=8-2&keywords=sharp+aquos+crystal

And, as I have posted earlier, this is a lot of phone for 130 bucks. I am enjoying mine quite a bit, don't have any complaints yet.
