Using LG Optimus S as a donor

Getting most of the info off of the Optimus S is fairly simple. Just about any software (demo or otherwise) can read the required data or you can read it off the phone manually. The only tricky bit is reading the AAA and HA passwords/keys. It's seemingly impossible to read the keys with any stock software. What I ended up doing was following the directions in this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqCiY1mL-GY

A couple notes (READ THESE BEFORE STARTING):

  • I make no claims towards the legality of any of the download links in the YouTube video and am not advocating any sort of piracy.
  • You will want to make sure you install LGNPST and all the included components packages as well as copying the LGNPST.exe to the folder you installed it in. You will be running LGNPST with this exe and not the default.
  • You will also want to get and install the proper dll for your Optimus S which is LS670 (I got mine here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/138144-ls670-dll.html). When you have the dll you'll want to register it using reggie.exe which should be located in LG-LGNPST12.7z under model\mtp (I just merged the extracted folder with the Model folder in the LGNPST install.
  • Before you do anything you will want to make sure the phone is in usb debuging mode (under applications in the main system menu) and you have the proper drivers installed (available here in the LG Mobile Support Tool under software update  http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-LS670-Gray)

By doing all of the above and following the video I was able to read the AAA and HA keys off of the Optimus S.

  • Where can a legit copy of LGNPST be found?  Googling reveals many websites I'm not going to touch.  Is this one of those "If you have to ask where the party is, you're not invited to it" sort of deals?

  • Well, after picking up a virus on the first download attempt, and cleaning up my computer, I found a 1.2 and a 1.3 version.  I seem to be a bit stuck in relation to the guy's youtube video - my system here doesn't respond like his does, perhaps because it's a different phone than he's using.  I was able to run LGNPST and have it read the phone info OK, but I don't thing I'm going to press on.  I was hoping to use my DroidX as my phone but the chances of ending up with a bricked Optimus AND a bricked DroidX are just too high.  Off to buy an actual Ting phone for my upgrade.....

  • Brian,

Can you confirm which features you have working? Voice, SMS, MMS, Data, 3g, etc

  • I can confirm that voice, SMS, and 3g are working. I haven't tried but I imagine MMS works as well. The only noticable issue I have is that holding down 1 on the dial pad gets me an error recording instead of voicemail, but that coul just as easily be my target phone.
