HTC EVO Design works as expected including 4G

I am very happy to report that with my donor Vero phone, I have 3G data up and running along with voice. I didn't try text but it should work as usual. I did this with all free software -- cdma workshop demo +  DFS + QXDM + QPST is all you need and a little bit of patience.

The process is exactly like EVO 3D. Please let me know if I can help anyone to get it going for them. In the meantime, please do let me know if you have a Vero I can purchase for my other lines [I need two more].

Thanks much.

  • BTW, Ting could have programmed the banner to say  "Ting!!" when programming their devices -- but they chose not to do it. I did take the liberty to change it to "Ting !!" on my HTC design 4G. In case you are wondering how -- From QPST service programming -->Display-->Banner. Change it to whatever you want to. Phone reboots complaining it is read-only item but does the job anyways :) next time it comes up.

  • 4G works like a charm -- no changes needed. just profile update and PRL update is all I did.

  • Glad you got a Vero! I'm still trying to get my data to work on my HTC Incredible from my Vero donor. I know this phone is flashable to a Sprint prepaid since I had it on Boost Mobile before Ting. I got the ESN, voice, and texts working. I'm just stuck on these data profiles! I have a couple hours every Saturday morning while everyone is still asleep at home to work on this :-/

    I think my problem is the shared passwords. Which of the 4 programs did you use to read the data profiles from the Vero and then write them to the HTC? Or did you just write everything down and enter them manually? Also, what is the purpose of QXDM? I downloaded it but it seems I can do everything I need to do with QPST or DFS.

    Thank you!

  • Use DFS to read the HA and AAA secrets along with everything else in "Mobile IP" tab. and enter them manually for your HTC through the same DFS tool.

    You do not need to modify anything else for data. Then do "update profile" and "update PRL" from your phone. Everything should be working then.

  • BTW, I used QXDM to change ESN/MEID.

  • I will try this, thank you. Where do you find "update profile" on the HTC phone?

  • Also, what is your PRL number please? I may have to find it online and manually update.

  • Settings->system update->Update profile

    Settting->system update->update PRL

    You do not have to know PRL#, also your PRL number may not be same as mine -- your phone is not same as mine.

    Hope this works. Best of luck.

  • My phone is older and doesn't have those options under System update. Please let me know your PRL version, I will find it online and manually update with ##PRL# to see if  I get 3G.

    Thank you!

  • I might have to give up on this old Verizon phone. The Sprint Androids have those great 'update profile' and 'update PRL' options under system update. Mine does not, that area was only used for OTA Android updates and Verizon bugfixes. The Evo Design 4G looks really economical, I might get one on eBay soon to try out.

  • But I still don't get it, when this Verizon phone was running on Boost perfectly fine...arg.

  • I'm not giving up on this, but I think I need that PRL. My PRL is from my Vero, which is not a 3G phone. I'm afraid this is why I see 1X instead of 3G on the phone. I have version 50580 from the Vero. Nirapada, I would greatly appreciate if you could email me the 50587 file. I think this is my missing link since my phone doesn't have the 'update profile' and 'update PRL' options. I have the profile info with HA and AAA passwords set up exactly like my Vero, but I have a feeling this PRL is the issue. joeyfrenchfries AT gmail.com. Thank you in advance if you can do this for me. Either DFS or QPST allows you to save the PRL from your phone on one of the tabs, I do not remember which one since I'm at work.

  • Check your email -- I have sent the PRL file. Please understand the risks involved [bricking your phone] -- I have never done this myself and have no idea if this works or not. Please let me know if how it goes. Best of Luck.

  • I just closed my account with Sprint. They said the released the number from the account. However, when I go to Ting, to activate the ESN, it says it is invalid. Is it because it is locked by sprint? If I get an msl code, and unlock the phone; will be valid to add to ting?

  • Hi Kelly,

    We can't bring over active devices. Please either cancel your number or port it onto another device before trying again!
