Purchasing a phone to port over ...

If I'm looking to transfer a phone over from Sprint (a Samsung Galaxy S2 for example) using the Samsung M370 as a donor phone, does the Galaxy S2 have to have a good ESN number currently?  Or, does this not matter since the phone will no longer be on the Sprint network?

  • I'm looking to buy a used Sprint phone and most say they have a bad ESN, I was just wondering if that was relevant or not.

  • The target phone's ESN status is irrelevant since you will be overwriting the target phone's ESN with the donor phone's credentials.

Phones listed as "bad ESN" on ebay and the like will work just fine so long as you can program them with the correct information.

Note however, that at the time of this writing it is still an open question whether the Brio/M370 can be used as donor phones as people have been having trouble pulling the information from them.

  • I can confirm that the M370 can be used as a Donor phone.  I have confirmed Calls, Texting, "1x" data connections. . .  and eventually "3G" connections (after I found Profile-0 AAA Shared PW).

Works great!  Cancelling my Sprint service tomorrow.

  • Forgot to mention, the target phone was an Evo 4G.

  • Any update on whether the Brio can be used as a donor phone?

I have an LG Optimus V and it doesn't make sense for me to buy an LG Optimus S which I think is the same phone, just so I can use Ting. I would like to buy a Brio and then use it as a donor phone for my LG Optimus V.

  • The Brio does not appear to be a useful as a donor since no one has been able to pull profile 0 off it to get 3G. At this time I would recommend against buying the Brio as a donor.
