Hacking a non-Ting LTE phone on to Ting

Hey, so here's a question. If you have an LTE device -- say a Sprint Galaxy Nexus -- and you flash your ESN / MEID / IMEI from a donor phone, is that enough to authenticate you on LTE or does LTE also require you to install or flash something more? For example wimax required RSA keys as I recall.

  • This is fairly uncharted territory. I don't know of any reports of LTE porting success. Given that Sprint doesn't even have any towers up, I don't think this is even testable yet.

  • I think they have towers up elsewhere, but not in my area. It would just be blame to hack an LTE phone to Ting and fix months from now, notice it isn't working.

  • If it's anything like 4G, you'd need to spoof the MAC address as well. I haven't played with any LTE devices yet. Looking to move to ting soon. I've been using a donor system on Sprint for years (bad esn phones) and the 4G came down to having a donor device that supported it, as well as spoofing the MAC.
