How to root the Optimus Elite

I know the Elite has been rooted on Virgin Mobile but does anyone know how to do it on Ting?

  • I am too just getting around to rooting my Optimus Elite.  I too Googled, and came to this post this morning on Android Forums, http://androidforums.com/elite-all-things-root/612914-optimus-elite-root-apk.html.  Copy two APK files to your SD and run Poot.  It downloads some library that's around 9MB, so be aware or use WiFi.  Then download two apps from the market, SuperUser first, then RootChecker to verify it all worked.

I found some USB drivers in another thread at https://www.box.com/s/m7h8hbfoez3rsl3alhat.  Now to figure out something to do with this rootness.  Apparently, there hasn't been much development of the usual ROMs, recovery images, etc.

First thing I can think of is TitaniumBackup.  It turns out to need Busybox.  So install and run Busybox from the market (I'll probably never call it the Play Store), select to install it to /system/xbin.  I didn't want to accidentally overwrite an of the existing files in /system/bin.  Now TitaniumBackup runs without a hitch.  I'm currently backing up everything.  Next I'll finally be able to remove all the crappy Sprint apps! :)

  • Phone feels so much nicer without the Sprint apps that came with it. No more nagging to upgrade them even when they do not work. Hopefully if they fix the MMS we will still be able to root it after the firmware update.

  • I do not know how widespread the issue is but I received an official apology email yesterday saying they are working on a firmware update to correct the issue. Basically I cannot send MMS and after hours of twiddling and a lot of help from support, the tech guys told their sprint overlords and they are writing a firmware update.
