Getting CyanogenMod on my Optimus Elite

Hi there. So I've got this hot new phone with a two-year-old or so operating system. I'm a 'me too' Linux user, which means I want a turnkey way to get some good community software on my new shiny. CyanogenMod looks like they've got 'official' versions for a whole pile of Optimus devices, but not the Elite. Has anyone had luck going soup-to-nuts, box-to-modded with the Elite, and if so, would that kind person be willing to share their steps to reproduce?

Thanks in advance.

  • Yikes, awful quiet here. Not sure about what direction you should go. I would head over to the xda forums, sprint section.

Speaking of which... that would be my second question. I'm waiting on the Galaxy S3. I'm curious if I can just use the Sprint S3 roms.

  • I started checking for a mod when i found some limitations with the llama profile manager app.  Apparently 3rd party apps aren't allowed to turn mobile data connection on and off.  Then I was surprised to find my optimus elite was about the only phone that doesn't have a cyanogen mod.  Seems like a popular basic phone would be good candidate for it, but apparently lg delayed the release of its source code too long and now nobody wants to mess with it.

  • Luckily people are tinkering and the phone has been rooted on Virgin. There is also a reported root for the Sprint version but it is still being tested.

  • I've been Googling around for a CM ROM with this phone, and haven't had any luck. I might see if any of the similar, officially supported Optimus line ROMs will work.

Any updates on progress anyone makes in installing Cyanogenmod would be gladly appreciated.

  • If it was not my only mobile I would attempt the root myself basing it on the Virgin Mobile root.
