Resetting a phone's password

Give a 13 year old a Ting Kyocera Rise... how long until she sets/forgets the password?   Less than 4 days.

Google searches suggest if you enter the wrong password enough times, you'll get an option for "forgotten password" and can use the google account to reset it.  That's not happening.

Anyone know how to reset a forgotten password?   or, if nothing else, I suppose we hard reset it and start over, but then would we need to re-activate or anything with Ting?

  • You won't need to do anything with Ting if you reset it, though depending on the type of reset it might spend a few moments going through its activation/profile update process when it starts up afterward.

  • Is this a lock screen password? Please elaborate.

  • Yes. She switched the pattern at least twice, then decided to go to a password. Must have typed it twice to set it, then couldn't type it right the first time the screen locked. I've tried every reasonable mistake (like caps) that I could think of. No luck.

  • I believe that by default most smartphones unlock. but wipe the data after a certain number of incorrect tries.

You could also probably power off the phone (battery pull if needed) and boot into recovery mode and perform a factory reset, but that would wipe the data too.

  • I found the reset instructions on the sprint site and did that. Good enough.

  • I'm really happy you were able to get this taken care of Bob.

As everyone had been saying here, I don't think there's a way to get passed the lock screen without the password short of wiping all of the data off the phone.

  • Hi Donald,

The password that is 10 characters is that for the phone or for your Google Account? The 8 character password would be specifically for the phone. If you are not sure what it is you may have to factory reset the device as there is no way for us to recover a phone password.

My suggestion may be to try any 8 character passwords you may have used before and if none of those work your option is going to be to do the reset. The factory reset will wipe everything on the phone so be prepared to have to add phone numbers again unless you have them backed up to your Google Account. Here are the instructions to do the Factory Reset (follow the hard reset instructions) on the phone.
