(solved) Need help with donor/clone of working ting activated HTC Evo 4G(supersonic) to Sprint Galaxy S3

I have successfully cloned/flashed my HTC evo 4G to samsung galaxy s3 to the point of being able to text and make calls.  I am unable to get 3g functional.  Haven't concentrated too much on 1x, focused on 3g.  I believe I need the HA and AAA passwords from the HTC but I am not certain CDMA workshop or QXDM is reading them correctly.  We have the full version of cdma-ws and think we are pretty close to getting this clone job fully working.

I do have the MSL for the SGS3 that I am cloning to and can manually program the device given the correct information

I also have another samsung galaxy s3 that I have activated with Ting.  currently ting has deactivated the device during troubleshooting and I havent had time to contact for further assistance.  With the second SGS3 I was able to get voice working with the ting phone reps, but have not yet been able to get text and 3g working.    They were also at the time unable to get data working on this second SGS3.

Any assistance with both troubles would be greatly appreciated.

  • James,

Is the Galaxy s3 not a Sprint phone? If it is a Sprint phone, it should be able to be BYOD to Ting without major reprogramming.

  • I have two S3s.  Both are sprint and both are craigslist purchases.  I found out one of them had a bad ESN when I attempted to activate with ting, not knowing to check ahead of time which is why I bought the second one.  Thankfully the second seller was more trustworthy.  There was some difficulty in getting the good ESN S3 going, but I think there may have been some delay on the sprint backend of things as the day I bought the phone it was active and the seller went straight away to the sprint store to pick up a couple of new S4s.  About a week later the BYOD activation worked just fine for the good ESN s3 and data/talk/text is functional.  I haven't checked the data speeds on the good ESN s3.

The bad ESN s3 sat for a moment while I considered things.  I've never been the biggest fan of the HTC evo 4g.  I got it for the right price, and it activated on Ting just fine, but it really irked me to not be able to use the other s3 I purchased.  A good friend of mine is a cell phone tech and assisted me with use of CDMA workshop.  We cloned my HTC which was already active on Ting over to the bad ESN s3.  Talk and text worked but data would not.  We kept struggling with it.

I was getting an error 67 (bad username/password for data registration).  Did a little bit of google searching and people on the forums suggested doing an "update profile" from the device.  This successfully resolved my data connection issues.  I am not certain if currently I am only getting 1x data as the connection is quite slow.  PRL was also updated.

So overall the clone was more or less successful.  I want to still check out my data speeds issue and see if I can confirm I am getting 3g speeds, however I'm quite happy with ting as a carrier.

  • Hello OP,

Do you by chance remember the steps performed to get the Evo's info cloned over? I am trying to do the same with a ZTE Flash and have been unsuccessful for a few days now. Any tips would be appreciated.
