LTE/MMS APN Fix Android 4.4 (Kit Kat)

I flashed endless zips trying to fix my LTE on Cyanogenmod 11. Nothing worked until now. So for those STILL having issues here's a Modified APN ZIP. I flashed my GNex back to stock 4.3, then navigated to /system/etc/ and copied the original apns-conf file that came with the stock ROM and saved it to my PC. Then I downloaded the Ting APN Android 4.3 version 3.zip file (Google) and replaced that apns-conf with the stock version I saved earlier. I re-zipped it as 'Ting_APNs_Android_4.4 (02-28-14).zip'. I rebooted my phone to Recovery Mode (TWRP) and did a factory reset (REQUIRED). Then I flashed my 3 ZIP files; CM11(ROM)GAPPs 4.4, and my own Ting_APNs_Android_4.4 (02-28-14).zip. Reboot and setup your device really quick. That's it! If LTE doesn't show up right away disable Wi-Fi if enabled, navigate to Settings>Mobile Networks (under Wireless & Networks) and make sure your mobile Data Connection is enabled and LTE is selected then navigate to Settings>About Phone>Sprint System Updates and click Update Profile and Update PRL. Thanks to the original creator of this file.

@Matthew Trent You're welcome! Glad it did it's job. @Scott Ferguson, I have no idea why I have a Sprint System Updates option on my phone. I have a Galaxy Nexus and it's always been there whether I'm running Stock or CM10-11 so I assumed it was normal...I uploaded a screenshot.

@Deante Flood Ahh, that must be it. I'm running on a LG Optimus G currently and it doesn't have that option, but I just checked, and my old Galaxy Nexus does.

My Sprint LG Optimus G lost data connection (No 3G or LTE) after updating rom to CM11 Kitkat nightlies two weeks ago. Phone does not have the option  Settings>About Phone>Sprint System Updates > Update Profile and Update PRL. Is it possible to get data working again?

Try downloading today's nightly, it's my understanding that CM recently made changes to the way the phone handles APNs and it took them a few tries to get it right. It was recently fixed so download the 3-19 nightly, reboot into recovery, flash the new nightly, then flash my APN zip. Reboot and let me know what happened.

@Deante...I

a) downloaded the 3-19 nightly

b) rebooted into recovery using Quickboot

,c) flashed the new nightly and then flashed your APN zip

d) Rebooted.

Still same result. No data or Sprint menu options in 'About Phone'. I have attached some screenshots.

That is weird. It might be a dumb question but did u do u factory reset before u flashed the new nightly then make sure data is enabled in your settings menu? Under the Settings menu look under Wireless & Networks click More > Mobile Networks and make sure your phone is set for LTE and that mobile data is enabled. On some phones this is disabled by default after a CM flash.

Yes, I did a factory reset before doing the two zip file flashing. Also made sure the data is enabled and set to LTE. I'm at a loss to get my data connection working again.

I also have an LG Optimus G, and I never got it to work either, doing the same steps including factory reset. I finally opted to go back to stock using LGNPST. Data works fine on stock. I would prefer CM11, but I really only need it for low power bluetooth, which I've decided I can live without.

Here are the directions that I followed with links to the files to download. You will have to factory reset and lose all files on your device, so back everything up to your computer first. http://pastebin.com/83yf2ZcA

Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050582 for more information about rooting and unlocking your device after resetting. If you need assistance while working check out this IRC channel. They've helped me in the past.

I've tried using this fix but for some reason data still doesn't work. I have a Sprint Galaxy S4.

I've been trying to use Omni ROM or Gummy or really any 4.4 AOSP based rom but I can't connect to the data. I can see the signal but I can't connect to it!

Some info about the phone Baseband Version is L720VPUFNAE & the PRL version is 54015. Don't know if that helps but if anyone has any ideas please let me know!

for all the optimus lg ls970 users, im on the 4.4.2 pacman rom, its amazing btw!, i had no internet,so i flashedback to the stock rom, type on the dialer  ##767530## enter manually your device mls and msid (you can find them on your ting acc under device settings), then updated my prl and profile, then flash cm11, gapps, and the ting apn zip on the begining of this thread, everything works great!!

the fix works.  what i had to do-----

  1. i started with a working Sprint phone with CM11 rom

  2. flash to Stock Sprint rom using Odin or Clockworkmod, set up Ting account, do the ##72786# process, phone activates on Ting and everything works. Update PRL and Profile while on Stock rom

  3. Re-install CM11 rom from .zip file (not from clockworkmod backup! need to start fresh and CLEAR DATA in clockworkmod), and GAPPS zip file.

  4. Install Ting APN .zip file from this thread, using clockworkmod

  5. Reboot, and should be good-to-go, with Ting on CM11 rom

The big hangup for me was trying to restore my old CM11 backup.  I tried over and over, trying to restore that backup and then install the APN zip, the mobile data just would never work.  Have to start fresh, clear data and install APN zip FIRST, then boot.  There must be some initial configuration that needs to be done, simply dropping in the new apns-conf.xml is not enough.  Hope this helps the next person.  Thanks OP for providing this patch.

Worked a trick for me on a Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710). I followed the same steps as chris just above and have tested it out in an area with decent LTE coverage; it's worked flawlessly.

Thank you, Deante's fix with Chris's update worked great for me on my Galaxy Nexus! The only thing that isn't working for me is MMS when LTE is enabled. It's not a big deal for me; I'm just happy that MMS works.

I got data working on my gs3 but for some reason picture messaging doesn't work. when I go to the APN settings it has the wrong MMS URL so when I try to change it it says I can't save it without an APN specified. Anyone know what I would need to put as the APN? Once again LTE data works but picture messaging doesn't. Really weird.

Chris!!! You are awesome! Followed your directions closely for my LG Optimus and now I've got CM11 and 4G/LTE working.  I thought I had done this procedure from the start but I must have missed a step.    One thing I'd like to pass on here for those who may have the LS970/Optimus G...  BEFORE wiping data and going back to your stock ROM (luckily I have a ZIP of stock ROM on my sd-card in case of situations like this) -- use the app FreeGee to BACKUP your ESN settings.  Because during this process my phone lost it's ESN data (which contains your phone #, MSID, etc).  I had to re-flash my ESN zip (FreeGee will make this for you) right after booting to stock ROM for the 1st time (then rebooting back into CWM recovery) and then I activated / updated PRL/profile.   Then I went back to recovery -- WIPED DATA and CACHE and flashed CM11 -> Gapps -> and Ting 4.4 APN ZIP from this thread.  As SOON as CM11 booted I saw the LTE symbol light up.  Holy CRAP! And I've been messing with this for weeks now! I was actually going to post here for help until I saw this thread had been updated.   So Chris -- I am forever grateful to you!  Thanks dude!

You are my personal hero.

I was running BeanStalk 4.4 on my Galaxy S4 for a while. Over time my device was becoming unstable. I flashed to Cyanogenmod which did fix my problems but also gave me some new ones.  Like breaking MMS.  After 4-5 hours of "restore from backup->encrypted /data can't be wiped by non stock recovery->ODIN->stock rom/firmware/recovery->remove encryption->ODIN again-.profile and apn updates->test okay : ) ->clockworkmod->Cyanogenod->test->bangHeadOnDesk.exe.  Your ziped package of ting's apns and another 15 min of flashing did exactly what I needed.

all of my internets to you good sir.

Wow nice work! This fixed me up. GS3 with slimkat, I've been working on getting this to work for hours now and it never would have occurred to me to do this without this thread.
