Hey John,
I'm not sure where Sprint's at with it, and although we don't have any news to share at the moment, there are efforts underway. Stay tuned!
A few years ago, news went around that Sprint would unlock your phone after you complete you contractual obligation or after the ETF was paid off. Since that news went around in 2007, I have seen nothing at all about this. Did they go back on that, was it not true to begin with or is it just not high profile news?
Also, wouldn't this open up Ting to being able to use the "unlocked" devices? Perhaps the problem is an agreement with Sprint that they can only use their provisioned devices, but this practice is very anti-consumer. If you paid for a device either outright, fulfilling your contract or paying the ETF, you own the device. It shouldn't be up to Sprint to say how you can or can't use that device on another carrier or event their own MVNOs.

Are there any current CDMA MVNO's that have true supported BYOD?
This could be a gigantic advantage between Ting and other MVNO's.
We agree. It's super important, especially when you consider that we don't use a subsidized device as leverage to hold our customers to term contracts. We want BYOD just as much as you do... probably more. :-)
