Any word on the Galaxy Nexus or EVO 4G LTE coming to Ting?

I realize this is sort of wishful thinking, but I remember reading that there was supposed to be a blog post about possible future Ting phones.

Any word on whether or not the Galaxy Nexus or EVO 4G LTE will be coming to Ting?

There should be LTE sites lighting up on Sprint in the very near future.

It would be nice to have one of those phones available on Ting.

  • Ivan:  I'm relatively certain I read around here somewhere that Ting's phones will get updates about the same time (or shortly after) sprint's version of the same phones get the updates.  So I am sure the S2 will get the update.  But, even though Tmobile's S2 got the update this week, Sprint's S2 is due for ICS until "late 2012."

All that having been said, I decided to go ahead and buy the S2.  I will use it to try and gauge my usage before I move me and my entire small business over to Ting when the new phones release.  And, maybe I'll rehome the S2 to a forum member if I move on to an S3 (or whatever else amazing Ting throws at us)

  • Late 2012?  Is that a new thing?  I read 2012 and people were guessing mid-2012, I never heard late 2012.  If you spend any time on xda-developers you already know they have been using components from leaked samsung ICS builds for a while.  Just nothing official yet.  So they are certainly working on it.

  • Bob: According to Ben Lucier, you can deactivate the device and reactivate it later:  https://help.ting.com/entries/21471301-disabling-devices  And people are buying and selling used Ting phones on these very forums.

  • huh.  I went back through trying to find where I read "late 2012" at, and can't find it.  I think I may have added the late part in my head because 2012 is already half over.

  • I would not be surprised at late 2012. I tooks them a long time to get the last major release to the Samsung Epic 4g, , the GSII's predecessor.

  • If you really don't want to wait, you can use the CM9 alphas...  http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/

  • Thanks for the link John, looks like its coming along nicely. I'm gonna try switching to that build. Which version of clockwork mod are they using with that version of cm9? I didn't see a download link.

  • Well you probably have to do a little reading.  There is a bug in the samsung ICS kernels that can brick a lot of the galaxy S II phones.  There is an app in google play that will tell you if you have the chip that has the problem.  From what I understand this can be fixed in software, but it hasn't really yet until this most recently nightly build.  So the safe way to flash it go back to EL29 or and older GB rom, then installing CM9.  I really like AOKP better, but the ports of that for E4GT are not really keeping up, so I've switched to CM9 for now.  Download links are on the "Installation Guide" page, also there is a lengthy thread on xda-developers.

  • oh and the guide doesn't look like it mentions it, but you have to be rooted first of course
