Verizon charging a cancellation fee when not under contract

Hi all. Just switched to Ting this week and love it so far!

So I'm tying up loose ends after porting my Verizon numbers, and they're charging a $50 cancellation fee per line. One of the lines has not been under contract since 2010, and the other line's contract was up in May this year.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Seems to me my only responsibility to them would be to pay my final bill, not to also pay a cancellation fee when I didn't break a contract early.

  • I am on Sprint and getting ready to port my line to GoogleVoice.

Hopefully Sprint won't be doing the same to me.

Just got my Ting M370 today to use as donor phone for my Evo 4G.

  • I left Verizon earlier this year and there was no cancellation fee other than paying the final bill. Be sure that you are actually no longer under contract and not just in your early-renewal/early-upgrade time period. I would recommend calling customer service to ask for details on why you are being charged that fee.
