Ting Chat Room

As wonderful as the forums are, they don't allow for terribly real-time communication and chat. That's where IRC comes in.

Some of us are camping out at #tingftw on freenode. For those unfamiliar with IRC, it's just a chatroom, you choose a nickname and off you go. If you haven't used IRC before, the easiest way to join the chatroom is to click on the following link: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#tingftw

Anyone in the room and keeping an eye on messages there will likely chime in to answer questions, but replies may take a little time, so please be patient if you don't get an answer immediately. Also, keep in mind that we're mostly Ting customers, not employees, so we don't speak for the company. Occasionally some Ting employees will drop by the room, so you might catch someone there, but again, there's no guarantee. Think of it like an office water cooler/village pump/watering hole/etc.

I will note that one nice thing about the forums is that they have permanence. If we do have useful findings in chat, it would probably be a good idea to post a summary of those findings back on the board for all to see.

Hope to see you there. :)

    Hey Kelly,

If the ruined Nexus 5X was using a Ting GSM sim card and you were looking to use that same phone number attached to that sim card, to continue using the GSM network on the new Nexus, then Yes,  you can use that same sim . Just pop that sim into the new Nexus and run through these APN setting to setup the phone and test it out with a call to make sure you are activated.

  • It would be interesting if someone would maintain a quote database for the IRC room when something notable comes up. Mozilla uses Chirpy to accomplish this: http://quotes.burntelectrons.org/. Any interest in something similar for the Ting chat?

  • We have a Nexus 5X with you that has been ruined. We purchased a new one that we want to activate with you when it arrives in 1 or 2 days. Can we use the SIM card from the ruined Nexus 5X? What additional steps will we need to go through to complete the swap over? Thanks for your help.
