Porting from AT&T GoPhone Helpful Hints
  • Although your GoPhone account information on AT&T's web site does not display an account number, you actually DO have one and you need to know it to port. The only way to get it is to call GoPhone customer service (611 from your cell phone).
  • You also need to know your account PIN. I thought I knew mine, but when I verified it with GoPhone customer service I learned that it was different. So, when you're calling them to get your account number, make sure you also know your PIN too. They can reset it if need be.
  • AT&T GoPhone customer service was cooperative with the information but will probably ask you why you are porting.
  • There is no social security number (SSN) associated with your GoPhone account. At the moment, Ting's port form requires SSN. Other customers have reported success simply by entering zeros: 000000000.
  • When the port happens, your AT&T GoPhone account will be instantly gone along with any unused balance.

  • Thanks for the great suggestions John.

The PIN is an important one in any porting situation. One key thing for people to keep in mind before porting a number from any carrier is that the PIN or password is generally not the same as your password for logging into your carrier's web portal for bill payments and such.

    Cheers.

  • After dialing 611 to call AT&T, press 6 to get to the More Options menu, then press 0 to get a rep(not given in menu, but 0 worked here but not in main menu), then press 2, answer a few questions, and you'll get a CS rep.

  • Very useful info; trying to port my wife's gophone in to her new Ting phone and even the AT&T website says the account number is the phone number.  WRONG!  But, I have to wait until tomorrow as the voice response system disconnected me because they are closed for Christmas.  I happy for them they were able to stay home, but just surprised.

  • I just got my new Ting phone in the mail and I will be porting from my ATT Go Phone tonight.  Is this still an up to date method for transferring my phone number?

For the SSN, will I have the option to use my actual SSN and not all zeros?

  • Hey Michael. We can't confirm if that's still what AT&T uses for GoPhones. If you want to be sure, you might give them a call and ask about the information you need to use to port the number out from them. Once you have that, you can start your port request with us. You can also check this link for some information on porting.

  • Just wanted to update, this is still an up to date method of porting from the GoPhone (as of 6-11-2014).  Called ATT support, got my account number, verified my pin, and everything was smooth sailing.

When Ting asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN, I entered my real SSN and not 0000.  I can't remember if GoPhones now require SSNs or not, but I didn't have a problem.

  • Oh, man.  I wish I'd read this BEFORE I changed SIM cards.  Now I'm stuck in limbo.  Can anyone tell me how to access the Ting "instant chat"?

  • I do not believe Ting has an "instant chat" Call or email Ting support to open a ticket.

  • Hey Mary. You can access our live chat from a few pages (Rates, BYOD, Savings Calculator, for example), but we don't do troubleshooting through chat, so your best bet is to call us or submit a support request.

  • Hi

I was having issues all day porting from AT&T Go Phone to Google Phone. I have had a very similar experience with everyone else here. This is the first time that I have encountered issues porting from AT&T Gophone to Google voice such as Wrong Account Number, wrong pin number and SSN.

    Solution:

    Here's what I did.

1)You called AT&T Gophone line. You asked the representative for your account number and the pin number.

2)The account number is a 12 digit number

3)Then, ask for the pin number (This is very important. This number has nothing to do with the pin you setting up with your gophone account). The representative will have to send that to you via text.

4)Update this information on your google voice account.

5)In the SSN, I put 0000 as the real SSN wouldn't work.

6)Now, my number is in the process of porting.

    Hope this helps!

  • Update:  Still accurate.   Accessed ATT customer service through the steps outlined.  They gave me the account number easily but did ask if I was porting to another carrier.   Fortunately, I didn't get any sales pitches to stay.

  • Has anyone tried this in the recent months?

I've tried this several times over the past two months, and keep getting:
"The account access PIN you provided was incorrect."

All three AT&T reps I have talked to so far said the port out PIN was the regular PIN used to access my account on myATT. Two of them texted new (temporary) PINs to me, but it works neither with those nor after changing them :(
    Any hints?

    Update:
The 4th rep I talked to also said it should be my regular PIN, but after telling her it didn't work she digged a little deeper and found a different PIN that she didn't know what it was used for - and with that one it worked! :P

So in case anyone else has the same problem, make sure they give you a PIN that is NOT used for logging into myATT

  •  It took me 5 fail attempts within 45 minutes to port the GoPhone to google voice, but finally with persistence this worked for me.

On my fourth call with AT&T tech support, she verified ssn numbers are not stored in the acct, even if you provided one when you got the GoPhone, so just enter  "0000"

Secondly the pin that you use to login, or they text you is not the one for porting, after explaining to her that I am trying to port the number she said try "1234",  this definitely works at least google voice has not send me oops error with pin / password.

Remember if you did not get the acct number before you left the store like I did, then you must call technical service to get it, its 12 digits long!  The number for tech support is 611 from your GoPhone or dial 800-901-9878.
