Thanks for using FedEx!

I realize this is "ask Ting", but I wanted this to be directed straight at you publicly, so just move it if it belongs in another forum.

I just want to say thank you for using FedEx.

The phone I recently purchased from you was supposed to arrive yesterday. When it didn't show up by the time I  thought it would, I checked the tracking number, and discovered it had a delivery exception flagged for a bad apartment number. So I called FedEx Customer Service, and after checking with their stuff it seems the driver just ended up in the wrong area and flagged it despite the address being correct. They've delivered to my apartment complex before, so this was an odd screwup on their part.

But that's not the point.

The FedEx CS rep sent an address update to the local office along with my phone number to retry delivery today. 30 minutes ago I got a call from a FedEx manager who'd ended up on the wrong side of one of our crazy "split avenues" in this area of town, requesting directions to get to me. 5 minutes later I was being handed the package containing my phone. By a manager. On a Saturday.

That's the point - they handled it awesomely. I've yet to experience Ting CS firsthand, but from everything I hear, I'd say you picked a great match for CS by choosing FedEx as your delivery partner.

Thanks for that!

  • That's an awesome story Trevor. Thanks for sharing it!

(I am going to move this to the Discussion section though)

    Cheers.

  • Wanted to add my thanks for Ting using FEDEX, not only for the excellent service but also for the added safety of hiding my $529 phone inside in that big thick ole FEDEX box! Kinda hard for thieves to guess what is inside without an X-ray machine! :)

  • The option to have the package delivered and held at a nearby Fedex location is a nice plus too.

  • Yes, FedEx Home Delivery is a million times better than UPS Ground.

  • I am a big fan of USPS - who also has tracking.  They knock when I have a package and hand it to me.

When my phone was delivered by Fedex they dropped it by the door and never even bothered to knock or ring the doorbell  (I heard the truck start up and leave).   The "TAMPER EVIDENT TAPE" all around the box would probably have been a clue of the  value to would be thieves.  Fortunately, I was home.

I prefer the Postal Service any day.

  • Yeah, that's what FedEx usually does to us too, just leaves it at the door in plain sight and runs away.  Luckily we got to the phone before random passers-by did.

  • Whether they leave it at the door or require a signature depends on the instructions of who sent it. I was a little surprised Ting didn't require a signature myself.

You can call FedEx and ask them to redirect a package, or add signature confirmation, etc. You can also create an account with standing instructions. For me they usually push the package under the railing on my 2nd floor patio. Out of view from the street, and anyone who tries to get it would appear trying to do it.

  • Ken you're saying a recipient can change the terms to require signature confirmation?  That's surprising...

  • I don't think you can tell them to not require a signature if the sender is requiring a signature. But you can definitely give them special instructions on unsigned packages, or designate a place for them to leave packages when you're not home -- including not leaving it on your front door or taking it back to the facility. I've actually had FedEx get me in touch with the driver for special instructions.

FedEx's customer service is a lot like Ting's. It's fast, professional, and very flexible. I think to a lot of consumers, FedEx and UPS are the same, but if you've sent out a lot of packages or received a lot, the difference is night and day. I've even had FedEx walk me through customs hassles shipping internationally.

  • I wish I could say good things about FedEx, but I can't. Both today and yesterday they had a driver out to "deliver" my new Ting phone (porting over from Verizon, ONCE it shows up). FedEx claims that I was not home, at all both days. The driver did not even knock or anything, nor did he or she leave a note.

Now they said that it might take until next Wednesday for them to deliver. I live in a decent sized town, so it's not a rural delivery issue at all. They are just darn lucky that I have a lot of spare time to wait for them to deliver as I am stuck at home due to my limitations due to injuries sustained during my time in the US Navy. I can be quite patient, but when I am lied to, that patience runs out quick. I have dealt with Tucows before for computer stuff, so I was jazzed up to hear about Ting. I do not hold Ting responsible for the issues with FedEx though.

  • I think UPS, Ontrac, & Fedex are using iphones 5 maps to navigate recently. I have been left two packages from totally different addresses in my door step. Since I get many packages at home I setup a camera to txt me a pic of who is at the door. I have video of them going up my stairs lightly taping on the door and leaving with in 15 seconds after the knock. How am I supposed to open the door?

I will say at least for me Fedex or ontract have better customer service. Ontract delivers packages from amazon before I am off to work @ 7:30am most days. Fedex has more offices that are smaller so it's easy to just go pick it up if you have to. UPS I will have to drive 15 miles on heavy traffic just to get to the only UPS location in San Diego CA.

  • @James - Since we don't require signature on delivery, it's very odd that would happen. I hope you have the phones ASAP, and if possible for you, calling them may speed up the process somewhat as you may be able to switch to pick-up.

  • FedEx delivered an empty package to my office yesterday when it was supposed to contain a new phone.

So I wouldn't exactly go thanking them myself...   :(
