  • Will that include Ting or is Ting lower on the update list because it's an MVNO?

  • I would think so, since our phones are technically Sprint phones.

  • Andrew from Ting posted this blog posting in another thread.

    https://ting.com/blog/is-my-android-update-ready-yet/

There appear to be many threads with basically the same question.

  • I would expect that Ting customers will begin to see it within a the next few days. As I recall from the S2, it was less than a week after Sprint's release that we saw it.

  • Ooops, accidental submit there.

Not all Sprint customers get the update on day one either -- usually it's over the course of several days or even weeks. It's staggered to avoid overloading the infrastructure.

  • Thanks for the link, Peter. For those who aren't aware of how Android recovery works, I posted some simple instructions on Tingusers.com:

    http://www.tingusers.com/forum/threads/156-How-to-get-your-Jelly-Bean-update-NOW!

Confirmed working on my Ting 32g blue GS3, but they all apparently use the same software, so have at it, people! No root required (in fact, it won't work with root)...

  • I just flashed the JB update using the method in the link above. My phone was rooted, but on the stock ICS ROM. Appears to have worked flawlessly! Thanks guys!

  • That's great news Les!

The remaining phones should be getting should be receiving the update shortly. Sprint deliberately staggers the update releases, so I'd expect that within the next month or so, they should be available to all S3 users.

Thanks for the links too peter and Ken.

  • Learned a new way to get the update via over the air.

    Settings

    Applications Manager

    Press All

    Google Services Framework

    Clear data

Press ok (DON'T PRESS ANYTHING ELSE)

    Go back to settings

    System Update- Samsung Software...

It should go live after pressing Check Now (pay attention to the date of the last time you checked it should be decades ago)

    If not, just repeat!"

LES: This worked on two of our phones, but for me it took about 8 tries (including a reboot).  For my soon he had to repeat three times.

  • Thanks to Peter and Ken's zip file option. I was successfully able to update to jellybean. Done to my GS3 16GB.

  • I used Ken and Peter's Zip file method on two GS3 16 GB to update to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and it worked flawlessly. So flawlessly that it wasn't obvious at first that there was any difference! Closer examination confirmed that I really had Jelly Bean.  Thanks!
