LG Marquee SD card required but not included

The phone requires an SD card to operate but does not come with one.  I don't know if Ting should supply one, but I think you should at least note in the device info that one is required if it is not going to be included.

  • My LG Marquee works fine without an SD card.

If yours doesn't you need to contact Ting support.

  • I believe its required if you want to use the camera. No big deal for me.

  • And the cards are cheap.  I bought a 32GB for 19.00.  Smaller ones even cheaper.

  • I should have been clearer.  The phone operates but you can't, for example, use it in USB mode without a card.  They are cheap, it's not a big deal, I'm not asking for my money back, only a small note with the device info.

  • Good point. Although they say that the card is an upgrade, the description doesn't mention that some phone features are not available without the card.

  • More specifically, discovered that you can't open a gmail attachment, or send one, without a card.  Anyway I went to Radio Shack around the corner and got a 4 GB card for $8 so problem, such as it ever was, is solved.

  • I bought my Marquee from sprint, it comes with a 2G MicroSD card. What can you do with that? Only higher end android phones will come with bigger SD card. So even your Marquee come with a SD card, it will not be usable. Besides I don't think any refurbished device will come with a SD card.

  • You need a card for several functions, including receiving and sending attachments with email.  Even a 2 GB card is plenty for that.  All I said is that I thought Ting should mention that the device does not come with a card and that you might need one for certain functions.

  • You are absolutely right Arnold. I came here to say exactly the same thing. All of the new phones came with a BUILT IN 2GB card - if it's built in, then I expect it to be included in a refurbished device as well. I cannot even download a small app. I'm very disappointed.

  • Abby Buell:

Expecting the card in a refurbished phone is not reasonable, whether you liked it or not. Manufacturers enforce strict requirements on the configuration and contents of nearly _all _refurbished products, so that they can point to a distinction between refurbished and new. The last thing they want to do is disturb their own market pricing structure for new products.

You do realize you got a new phone, anyway, don't you? They're almost never really used, if you're talking about electonic goods. It's a steal.

Some time back, **Woot.com **had a great note about what exactly "refurbished" meant. If sufficiently prompted I could probably find it and post it here.

I was not disappointed to discover the lack of a MicroSd card, but a little put out that there was no prior notice. I wound up getting a 32 GB card with a slightly faster rated speed (Class 6) from Newegg. Had I been forewarned, I could have had the MicroSD card in my mailbox at home before the Marquee itself arrived.

  • Thanks so much for the feedback everyone.

I promise you that this omission was more of an oversight tied to our not mentioning the inclusion of a microSD when they are there, rather than deliberately withholding this info or anything like that.

I've passed word along that we should be more up front about what's included in the box, and I hope that info will be forthcoming on the devices page shortly.

  • Since I started this thread, let me close it (I hope) by saying that I never thought anything was deliberately withheld, only that it would be helpful to note that the phone doesn't come with an SD card and that certain functions don't function without one.  Punto final.

  • OK, I just got a refurbished phone (an LG Optimus) and- over four months after the beginning of the thread- still no mention of the fact that it's required in order to use the camera plus other functions mentioned up - thread.

  • Nancy,

The Devices page now clearly states that the phone may not come with a manual or SD card. I do not believe that was the case when this thread was first started.

I am sure this thread & the phone manual can be found online using Google search, indicating when an SD card is needed.

If you just got the phone and would rather return it for a different one due to this issue, contact Ting. They try to deal very fairly with each customer individually.
