What would others buy?

I have a little dilemma, I need to get another phone, I like the Samsung s3, and the note. Not sure what would be the best to get.

Thanks

  • My advice? Go to a store that has both and physically handle them. It doesn't have to be a Sprint store, T-Mobile stores are pretty good about having both on hand for demos.

They're both large devices, and you'll have to figure out how practical that will be for you. Plus you'll get to play with the Note's S-Pen and see if it's useful or a gimmick.

  • I too am interested in buying a new phone for Ting. I will do as Trevor suggested, but I am also interested in finding out which smartphone has the best stable WiFi connectivity. Can anyone comment on their LG Viper, HTC Evo 4G LTE, SG SIII or Note 2 connectivity? I plan to use the phone primarily on WiFi so I want to make sure it is a reliable connection. I live a "Holiday Inn" life--I have stable WiFi available 90% of the day.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Definitely go check both out in person. I was also comparing the two about a month ago and decided to head to my local Target to check them out before buying. It turns out that, at least for me, the note 2 is too big to be practical. It is a nice phone but just not really possible to carry in a pant/jacket pocket. The S3 was actually a really good size and more than enough screen real estate for me.

  • If you can handle the size, the Note 2 is awesome! Better screen, better battery life, quad core, jelly bean. It's a beast phone.

  • Thanks for your help Samuel and Matthew! I do have JB on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. It has been a great smartphone except for making phone calls-chirping and squealing during phone calls. So I am a little reluctant to try another Samsung....

  • If you don't want another Samsung then I'd probably go HTC EVO 4G LTE. Amazing screen, some people dislike HTC phones due to the software though. There is the Optimus G but LG makes cool phones then seems to stop supporting them.

  • My wife was looking seriously at the Note2.  We went into a retail store and she handled it as well as the SG3 and the LG Optimus G.  She decided the size was just too much for comfortably holding the Note2, so we went with the Optimus G.  So far it has been a good choice.  No issues and a good product.  Your hands make the difference, though.  It's good advice to spend some time holding multiple options - even with the annoying leashes on them.

  • Thanks Mike! How stable is your WiFi connection with Optimus G?

  • As a side note, the very awesome site The Wirecutter provides a list with "The Best" of everything. Here is the current listing for best Android phones. http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-android-phones-right-now-november-2012/

    tldr; For Ting/Sprint It's the Galaxy S3.

  • Great article, Matthew. I really do want to stay on JB. I didn't realize all the "newer" phones out there did not have JB 4.1 or 4.2.

  • I have heard no complaints about our LG Optimus G on WiFi.

  • Thanks Mike! I did look at the Note 2 and SG3. I loved them both! I don't mind the size of the Note 2 as I have a "bottomless pit" (as referred to by my husband) or purse to carry it in. The store did not have the Optimus G available to look at. I will have to go to a "real" Sprint store as I only looked at the phones via our local Wal-Mart phone store. My daughters both liked the SG3.

Thanks for all of your help!
