Porting number from Ting

If at some point I decided to purchase a phone that wasn't compatible with sprint's network (Nexus 4, for example), how would I go about porting my number from Ting?

The reason I ask is I believe I had to put in my account number/pin to switch over to Ting, but I'm not sure where I would find that information if I switched providers again.

Thanks!

  • Hi John,

Just give us a call! You can either call us at 1-855-846-4389 or send an email to help@ting.com and we'll provide you with that information.

  • It would really be neat if you provided the info and instructions here, as your "help" email says the "help" hours are M-F only.   I didn't want to move from Ting but have virtually no Sprint tower service where we live... and so... it just hasn't worked out.

  • Craig,

Obviously, some of the required information would be account-specific. It is not wise to have that information posted on a public forum.

  • Hi Craig,

Bruce is right. The info is account specific, but I can tell you what we use to confirm port outs.

Of course, we want to see that name and address info is all correct. On top of that, there's an account number that we'll provide if you ask us, and for a PIN, we use the Master Subsidy Lock code (MSL) of the phone that the number is presently attached to.

If you need any of this, we'll gladly provide it.

I'll even send you an email with the account number and MSL listed right now.

  • Around 2 months ago I tried to port out of Ting and was told it would take "2 days" (which is already ridiculously long compared to the instantaneous transfer from most carriers)... 3-4 days later I canceled the port request. I ended up canceling my new service anyways, so it ended up not mattering-- but, I am considering moving off of Ting again and would like to know if I can expect another long wait?

  • We try to process port outs as fast as possible, Kevin. If you ever initiate a port out and find it taking too long, please give us a call to see if we can push it along for you.

  • Ok just dropping a goodbye note.  I'm not unhappy with Ting (I think you guys are great), but I'm in a low signal area and hubby is putting a metal roof on.  So now I have no sprint signal.  I ported my number and was told it could take 24 hours.  This isn't tings fault look a sprint on this one.  I learned lots as I refused to leave till my phone worked or I knew it would soon. If you talk constantly they will do a lot to get rid of you LOL.   The dial out worked right away so it was half ported and a few hours later the port finished and the phone works fine.

I really am sad to be leaving ting but they were great with the account closing and really seemed glad I could find a company that had a signal here.

Thanks for everything guys/gals  you all rock

  • We wish you all the best, Valentine.

Since you can still post here, you should be able to refer friends to Ting, provided they can get a good Sprint signal. They will get a discount and you would build up credit should you ever be able to return to Ting.

  • Thanks Bruce,

I tell everyone about ting I have even gotten the workers at different cell stores to go to your site to check it out.  Not to mention people from my internet co and the electric co.  I don't know if they ever got ting but they did seem interested.  I don't worry much about the credit as long as I can send people your way and help you and them.

  • Actually, I am just a Ting user who is part of their army of users that help promote Ting.Tung staff (like Katie in post 2 & Andrew) usually have the Ting blue avatars.

I have been a Ting customer for almost a year and now have 4 devices on Ting.

  • Third day of trying to port my number off Ting. Every day the new company calls and something is wrong.

First day it was the account password. Second day it was the pin number. Today it is the account number. We are doing a conference call now since every day Ting says something is wrong. And the new company ahs confirmed it has the correct info.

  • Unfortunately looks like I'll be leaving as well.  As others have stated, Ting itself is awesome but the Sprint network leaves a lot to be desired (at least where I'm at).  Getting to a point where it's like clockwork where my phone (Epic Touch 4g) ends up roaming inside at most of the places I've been to, which is unacceptable when I use data more than voice or texting.  Tried flashing different roms and varying modems but made no difference whatsoever.  Really sucks, but again, totally NOT Ting's fault.

  • It is a bummer that sprint doesn't have a better network.  I can't use my phone without driving a mile outside of the village, but I have come back to ting as looks like I'll be moving in the next few months and I shouldn't have so much trouble back in the big city

  • Porting out. No action by Ting for 8 hours. Is this normal. My past experiences have been relatively quick with other providers. Thanks.

  • Hey Dennis.

Our system would have automatically replied to the port request that the other carrier has set up for you. However, we would love to take a look to see what's going on. If you could please hop in an online chat or give us a call at 18558464389 we can check it out for you.
