Galaxy S3 Data Not Working When Leaving Wifi

I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S3 to the new version of Android (4.1.2) using an OTA update.  Since then, I've had two cases where I've left my home (on Wifi) and had no data connectivity.  The phone shows a connection to 3G, and the arrows light up, but nothing works.  Toggling airplane mode seems fix the problem temporarily.

Anyone else with this same problem?

  • Hi Hector. There are multiple factors that might be interfering with your phone's ability to connect to mobile data, but I couldn't locate your account by looking for your name nor this email address to check your issue.

Are you already working with an agent? If so, feel free to reply to that conversation again with the latest information. We might have to try temporarily suspending/resuming the number within the network to see if that kickstarts those services and helps in case that hasn't been done already.  If you're not already working with an agent, however, feel free to submit a new support request.

  • Hi Cookie. Some customers have reported success after changing the Network Mode from LTE/CDMA to CDMA under Settings. Please give that a try and see if that helps connecting to mobile data. I couldn't locate your device by looking at the email address you used to send this message, so please send us a support request from the email address used under your account if you need further help troubleshooting your phone.

  • I solved this same problem back in December after almost a month and a half of no connectivity to LTE. I could get 3G only by switching to CDMA only obviously. I was almost to my witts end when I discovered the key has to do with going to your dashboard and throwing the switch. I am pasting my posted solution from earlier in this thread. It will be on the post following this one, so you don't have to search for it. But this did work. so if you take the time to do it which is really no time at all you might find some success. I don't understand why it works except for maybe the dashboard resets it but try and follow exactly what I wrote below because I tried to write it down so that I would remember if I ever needed it again. But I remember was in a hurry so hopefully it makes sense. The solution that worked for me will be in the following post by me.

  • I'm now getting 4G through my samsung galaxy s3 as of about 4 or 5 hours ago. I took the advice above and went into my account dashboard to my phone and turned off (unchecked box) allowed to connect to Internet. the first thing I saw when I did this was that my phone automatically did a PRL update. I'm pretty sure that was an update telling my phone that it can't connect to the internet. But then I had a problem saying cuz I couldn't connect to the internet through my phone to turn it back on. So I read the text to my wife and she got online and turn it back on through the PC which probably took 5-10 minutes, which I only mentioned in case someone decided to factor that you have to wait but I don't think you do. So then I turned it back on or switched it back to allow my phone to connect to the internet and hit save (or my wife did anyway at home in front of the computer) I did not see any 4G. But, I went into my mobile data settings and I set the preferred mobile network to CDMA LTE and this is important, I restarted my phone. When it booted back up it said preparing network and I had 4G from that moment on. Not that I was a paranoid thinking that always going to get done doing is PRL and profile update and then disappear.... But he did not it is at 4G pretty sure it's going to stay there. I know forums are full of wacky Arthur Fonzarelli tactics of fixing things but I must attest that this actually works

  • here's a step by step version re written in a more straightforward manner

I had my phone mobile network set to CDMA only

I went into my account dashboard for my phone

turned off (unchecked box) allow to connect to Internet.

the first thing I saw when I did this was that my phone did a PRL update.  (don't know if this needs to be observed)

in account dashboard I switched it back to allow my phone to connect to the internet and hit save.

I went into my phone's mobile data settings and I set the preferred mobile network to CDMA/LTE (and this is important) I restarted my phone.

When it booted back up it said preparing network and I had 4G. Have had it for almost 2 months now.

  • Download "Data connection fix" from play store. It's free. Just turn it on and it'll do it's trick. Problem solve. Ultimately, you can do the more conventional way of turning on & off the airplane mode then turn on mobile data which doesn't always work.

  • Hi Nikunj,

The first thing that you should do is sign into your Ting account. Go to device settings and click on your device, make sure that "can access the internet" has a check mark next to it. If it does not, check the box and hit save at the bottom.

If your issue persists, try these steps:

Carrier Wipe (turn off WiFi, turn on mobile data prior to these steps)

    1. Open the dialer
    2. Dial # # 72786 #
    3. Enter your Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) (found under device settings on your Ting account) if prompted
    4. Touch "OK", phone will restart

    Profile Update

    1. Touch the “Application” icon
    2. Touch “Settings”
    3. Touch “System updates” (on some newer phones, this may be one level up from the Settings menu)
    4. Touch "Update Profile". The device will restart when complete.

If you need some additional help, please contact our support team.

  • Hi Mohammed,

You can check your current software version of your device by going to Settings > More > about device. The Build number ans baseband version show the current software version on your device. The software version should be L710VPBMK3 if your device has been updated to 4.3 Jelly Bean. If your device is not picking up the update over-the air (OTA), you may want to try using Kies to update your device.

  • in this process these type of condition are created as given below.

  • Hi Nikunj.  The ESN is the 'Electronic Serial Number' for your device.  On most phones, you can find this number under the battery (listed as either a 'Hex' or 'Dec' number, or both.)

  • I will join my voice to the chorus of S3 problems.

No data connection even though the status bar says 4G LTE.

Android 4.3. Did the ##72786# bit. Did the whole process, updated PRL and all that. No change or improvement. Tried profile update but didn't work...cause I don't have a data connection ya know?

Very annoying. Especially when trying to stream the Liverpool game...

  • I am not current with my sprint bill, my service is currently shut off until I pay to turn it back on. I have already followed all the steps and tried to switch over to Ting. After all the steps my phone shows that it is activated but when I place a call, I am rejected. Do I have to be current with my sprint bill in order for Ting to work? I was hoping to dodge this bullet because I hardly use my phone anyway. Please HELP!!!

    Thank You Kindly,

    Samualson

  • Hey Lee. The profile update should go through if you can see 3G or 4G at your phone's status bar, so we can definitely investigate it through a support request to ind out why that's not happening. I see you recently submitted a help request, so we'll take a look at it and get in touch with your by email. Expect that within a few minutes.

  • Hi Wryan,

Did you turn wifi off before doing the profile update? If not, please give it another try so the device tries to connect to the cellular network for that update instead. If you already gave that a shot, please submit a private support request and we'll investigate it.
