Moto X

I know it's early, but any word on availability to bring it over once it's purchased from Motorola/Google?

  • Hi Greg-   Well, every "flagship" phone does things that no other phone is doing.  Features are a matter of taste.  You're right though, a phone like the GS4 has a lot of bells and whistles that I don't really care about.  However a GS4 could be considered more "future proof" with it's expandable memory, replaceable battery (an $8 battery from Amazon gave new life to my GS2) and some would say more powerful engine.  So when Key Lime Pie is released, and 5.1, 5.2, 6.0, etc,   I want to be sure that my phone is still going to able to handle the software.  The ability to upgrade the GS4 comes at a premium, with the current Ting cost at around $600.  With specs similiar to the GS4, the HTC One, without an SD card or a changeable battery is going for around $535.   (By the way, phone makers arguments against including an SD slot are pretty weak.)

I'm hoping that the Moto X  (which looks like a great phone) will come in at price point that makes it a no brainer to buy.  (hopefully also all sprint versions of it will work on Ting, not just the Ting version)   Fingers crossed.

  • Well, it doesn't look like the pricing will be a no brainer after all. $575 for the 16GB model and $629 for the 32GB model. http://www.phonearena.com/news/AT-T-Moto-X-will-run-you-575-without-a-contract-629-for-the-32-GB-version_id46013 Extremely overpriced if you ask me. I know that's for the AT&T version, but prices rarely differ between carriers for off-contract phones. It's a shame because I was really hoping for a Nexus like device for the Sprint network. I owned a Galaxy Nexus, but it doesn't suit my needs anymore, and it doesn't receive OS updates promptly like a Nexus should.

Oh well, maybe the Ting pricing will be different :)

  • Yeah I was afraid it was going to be pricey.  The contract prices have been the same as the other big phones.  It'll probably go down some before the end of the year.  Another possibility is the next gen of the Nexus is supposed to come out before the end of the year, also possibly made by Motorola.

  • I saw this on GigOm.

"MVNO Ting will get the Moto X at launch right alongside the big carriers" from Kevin Fitchard:http://gigaom.com/2013/07/31/mvno-ting-will-get-the-moto-x-at-launch-right-along-with-the-big-carriers/

  • Hey Michael and Joseph, We won't know for sure until we've had a chance to test the device. It is still early days in this process. Keep an eye on our supported device list for any updates.

  • Any news? This device being available on Ting would make me immediately dump my POS HTC One V on Virgin.

  • New device updates are always posted on the Ting blog. Also, the device will appear on the Ting Devices page when available for pre-order. If you do not see it there, it is not yet available.

  • Thanks for the answer. But what I am looking for is, if you have any timeline for availability ? if it is a week or 2, I know I can wait, but if it is more than a month, it will tell me I should look for something else.

  • In toe post above yours, Scott Allan said Ting would start taking pre-orders this week. That is the official word.

I am sure the pre-order page will give some estimate of when the device will be available.

  • We are waiting for final confirmation, but we will take pre-ordrs this week, and I expect fulfilment will happen in 2-4 weeks. There will be a device update on our blog tomorrow or Thursday. Hope that helps!

  • Any idea on what would be the price range for an unlocked Moto X?

  • Sprint's website shows the regular price as $549.00 off contract.  Best Buy is charging $699.00 for an off contract Sprint Moto X though so who can say.  Looks like we may know for sure tomorrow.

  • I was just about to share that Jamie! If Ting offers it for that price, I will buy one for myself and my wife instead of getting her a used Galaxy S3!

  • Yeah that $299 price is really good for republic wireless....  hopefully ting is close and does not pull that big carrier price because it was obvious they all over priced it to begin with.

If they do not anybody know since republic wireless phones are also sprint versions if we could buy that one and bring it over?

  • I doubt that you would be able to bring the Republic Moto X to Ting. Here's hoping Ting's price will be in the same ballpark though.

  • So I've read the good news about Ting getting the moto x. That is great! From what I read today could be the day. I still haven't heard if the sprint version can be tingified. Is there any news on that yet?
