Anyone else having credit card issues?

I've been trying to activate my phone, but when I get to the credit card portion, it keeps declining the cards. I've tried both of the only cards I have access too. Both cards are good, and I'm using the correct info for both, so I thought maybe it was an issue on Ting's end, or whatever payment processor they use. Anyone else having issues adding a card to their account or making payments? I did notice that the first few tries had one error message, and then all subsequent tries had a different error. The current error is "Credit Card was not approved. 4718895" and the first error was "PuRSE error: Your credit card was declined. tx_id: 4718435".

Note: I'm doing a BYOD activation, and I'm using a referral link http://phil.ting.com, if either of those make a difference. Both cards are Bluebird(AMEX).

  • Hey there, billing related issues are often best addressed over the phone. I will send you an email so we can set up a time to get you up and running.

  • You're not the only one having cc issues, I tried to buy a new device today, tried 3 different credit cards, all were declined, called the cc companies to check on the cards, they were fine. The cards didn't even show any charge attempts today, so it must be a website issue.

  • Hi James,

Credit card responses will come back with a error code starting with the number 4. If you can give us the unique code you're receiving, our customer service team can help you out. You can get in touch with them here:  https://help.ting.com/anonymous_requests/new

    All the best.

  • I may have a similar problem with a working CC.  The issue was I was trying to ship to a different address than my home / billing card number. No matter what card I used, a different shipping address caused issues.

As soon as I changed it to ship to my home address, everything went through just fine.

  • I too have had many problems with credit cards not approved that I knew for sure were good.  I was getting messages like "card not approved 4789545"  support suggested clearing catch and browser history and waiting a few hours.  Finally tried this: Instead of using work computer with whatever software is between me and the Ting site, I used my phone internet on 3G to get to the billing page at Ting and my card was immediately approved.  My current suspicion is that my work computer network has some sort of filter that affects the process.  For what it is worth all I was trying to do was update my credit card information.  Hope this helps.  -ER

  • Hi Edward,

It's definitely possible that your work network was affecting the process. Nevertheless, glad to hear that you were able to update your credit card information!

  • Strange, I had added some useful content to this thread (in hopes of helping others with similar problems), and they disappeared.  I guess I'll say I second the suggestion to try using a phone browser with cell data connection and leave it at that this time.

  • Hey Glen,

We unfortunately needed to remove the posts from the forum as we prefer not to have the process for approval checks made public. I will be following up with you through your open request.

  • I am having the same issue, 2 different codes have popped up, and I am trying to buy them and get them shipped before the free express shipping offer runs out and before my current phone plans run out. My current phone hasn't been working for like 2 weeks, so I need to get a new phone. My wife and I want to be Ting customers, because Ting's idea for a mobile phone company is great... but this whole credit card fiasco is not helping at all!

  • I ended up just buying a MetroPCS phone. Sprint has terrible reception here anyway(not Ting's fault, obviously.)
