Verizon dropping 3G on 1900MHz - which devices affected?

  • They aren't reallocating 1900MHz in all areas. You should still have coverage on 850MHz in reallocated areas, and Verizon isn't likely to reallocate 1900MHz in areas where it is the only 1xRTT coverage, at least for now.

  • So, Verizon is dropping 3G data and ting does not roam data to Verizon.

    What issue here affects Ting users? None that I see since Ting users only roam voice & text, not data.

  • @Bruce: Because of the way the CDMA protocol stack is implemented, dropping 3G is equivalent to dropping CDMA in general, including call handling.

  • Verizon's decision to reallocate spectrum from CDMA to LTE is surprising given that they admit they have more than they actually need and presumably, are not fully utilizing it:
