Ting New Control Panel Feedback

Today we launched the new Ting control panel, designed to make managing your account even easier. We really hope you like it!

Has it resolved a problem you had with the control panel before? Great--we want to know. Did we take away something that you loved and used everyday? We want to know that too.

Let us know what you think in the comments below!

  • Can we get back the total per device as in how many text and min and data each line has used ?  i can only find pie charts on the main page when you go on details it only shows a list not a total for each device

    thanks

  • "I prefer being able to see the exact number of minutes, messages and megabytes  in numbers vs. percentages used by each device."  Linda Crocket

    I second this.

  • Well, the new page is a lot prettier, but also a lot less functional as you have eliminated a lot of useful information that the old page provided.  I hope this gets revised and all the helpful data added back soon.  And to be honest, I VASTLY prefer straight numbers to pretty charts.

  • Not happy.  I like how you can see how much was used by each person where it shows the long line across, so you can see how close you are to the next tier.  I'm disappointed that now it shows using a pie graphic symbol.  It is too condensed.   I was wondering, since some might like it and some might not, could we decide to choose which one we want on our account?  I know this might not be possible, but it doesn't hurt to ask.  Otherwise, I love the great service you give and when you call, you get to talk to a human customer service rep.  Whenever the opportunity arises, I tell people about Ting and how they could be saving money.

  • I don't like it. I want to know the billing cycle and I could not find it.

  • Hey everyone!  Your suggestions have been really helpful.  We're working hard on some new ideas from this thread — and on bringing back the things many of you have said you're missing in the new design.  We tend to push updates quickly (usually every two weeks or so), so we should have more to show you soon.  Thanks, again, for continuing to share your ideas and feedback!

  • I don't like the new lay out. I liked seeing how much my estimated usage was as well as how much was allowed for the next tier up and how much that allowed when I reached it. it doesn't show that any more. it also doesn't show the price difference between the tier I am currently on and what the price increase is going to be if I go into the next tier. makes it more difficult to figure what my bill might be if usage continues.

  • This is sizable step BACKWARD.   What happened to our ability to see the totals for each device!!!?

I don't like the new graphs either (vs the previous vu-meters) and, they seem to be missing some of the detail that was there previously.   (But this pales in comparison to no longer being able to see totals for each device.

I'm actually feeling embarrassed that I previously recommended Ting to others.  This is not the behavior of a mature company.  When rolling out a major change l(ike this) you'd be wise to follow what Google did with the new Drive interface and make it an option that can be switched off if it's not well received.

  • To **David Frailey,

    **

I hear you on this. I miss the old layout and totally agree with you this should have been put into a beta test mode that can be opt-in or turn off if people did not like it.

  • I believe the old one was more functional and understandable for me. This new one looks like an open page with the links on the left...old school web page from 2006 or so, where they were trying to fill up the pages. Please ive us back the old style for web access and PLEASE don't mess with the mobile app, cuz it works just fine the way it is!!!

    Thank you.

  • Thanks for adding the mouse-over for exact numbers! Intuitive and functional.

Can't wait to see the extra improvements you've got planned. :)

  • An idea is for the Ting team to bring back the old format and do a poll based on people's reactions to this layout, asking what features they liked most from the new layout - then adding them back if polls show a feature was well-received. The new layout comes across as something that makes many unnecessary cosmetic changes when formatting was already great to start with - reducing readability and ease-of-use for many, while removing some features and adding others.

I second what David and John said -- a beta test mode would have been more appropriate for this layout.

  • I like it, but kinda pissed that I had to use Safari to login with amazon. Chrome w/AdBlock had a problem where I don't remember it having one before. Oh well, thanks anyway, service is still great... even in the mountains.

  • Have the sort of the detail pages as I last left it.

Not newest date on top by default.   (although newest date on bottom would work for me)

  • In data usage details, when I sort by usage, the numbers are sorted alphabetically instead of numerically, i.e. 42.3 comes before 4.65.

  • I prefer the old one as well. In particular the "estimated" bill was the most important feature.

  • Overall I like the redesign, but one feature I miss from the old version is clicking on a device under details for a specific category and having it expand rather than take me to a new page. (ie. When I click on my device under minutes, I like that the details showed up right there rather than opening a new page which I have to navigate back from). A dashboard should have all the information I need right there rather than taking me to various other pages. It's cleaner and quicker, in my opinion.

Other than that, I like the new dashboard. Keep up the great work!

  • I liked being able to see the exact amount of messages, minutes and  amount of data I was using. Where did it go?

  • About the new customer interface. some good, some not so good.

I really don't like the circle clock displays.  I do like the latest activity at the top of the lists of used minutes, texts and data.  I would restructure the web portal so everything fits on one screen so I don't have to scroll.  For example move  "Ting mobile that makes sense" on a line all by itself, makes good business sense. Take the line that says "Help, Blog, About and etc. and move it down to the bottom of the page.  Reduce the font sizes on "your account and "current usage" so page can be compressed vertically.  Move "extras" and "account stats" into the blue column under "account activities".  Move "billing history" to a position under "your account" or "current and historical use" .  Move "* Not all devices containing the Sprint trademark are eligible; please contact Ting to det...". up into Grey area of page.  Move "* Sprint is a trademark of Sprint." up to bottom of Grey area.  Decrease size of Grey area.  O.K. I'm done, LOL.

I give Ting 5 Stars for effort  and of course exceptional customer service.  I give them 4+ stars for an excellent first start in the redesign of the web portal.  Love this company but I still don't like the clock displays, LOL.

  • I download the PDF version of my bill every month and I find that the formatting in the PDF is now broken. Most of the information is there, but it is scattered a bit and doesn't look clean anymore.

  • I see various comments referring to mousing over the graphs to see the breakdown of the individual lines, etc.  I don't see any of this. Nothing happens when I mouse over the pie charts.  I've used Firefox and Chrome on three different platforms, and IE 11. I'd just like to see the breakdown by individual line, which appears to have gone away completely. It's either the summary for my account, or the account detail. Fortunately, the Android app still gives me the individual line summary.

  • I'm not a big fan of the graphics.  I'd be fine with just the raw numbers.  But I understand that opinions vary on this point.

Also, it would be nice if there was a way to get your projected (estimated) amount for your next bill, in addition to the current charges that you've accumulated.   The current amount is fine, but the projected amount would be more useful to me.

  • I think they are referring to the small pie charts beside the device information, at least if you have multiple devices.

  • Hi Bruce -- Small pie charts where?  I have 7 lines. The only pie charts I see are the ones for Minutes/Messages/Megabytes.

  • Interesting. How do you get those pie charts? Do they show up when you mouse over the Details label? If so, I don't see them.

  • It is right there on the dashboard. Did you try deleting your browser cache or using a different browser? The attachment was from Chrome on Windows 8.1
