Ting New Control Panel Feedback

Today we launched the new Ting control panel, designed to make managing your account even easier. We really hope you like it!

Has it resolved a problem you had with the control panel before? Great--we want to know. Did we take away something that you loved and used everyday? We want to know that too.

Let us know what you think in the comments below!

  • The pie chart breakdowns only apply to accounts with 2-5 devices.

  • What happens if you have more than 5?

  • Thanks, Rob. So I'm not going crazy.  I tried the new dashboard on Mac OS X Mavericks with Safari, Firefox, and Chrome, Windows 7 with Firefox, Chrome, and IE, Windows 8 with IE, and Fedora with Chrome and Firefox.  The reason I'm not seeing the little pie charts is because I have 7 lines, not because of my browser.

  • Then there won't be any kind of breakdown by device on the main screen, Bruce.

    Peter, definitely not crazy.

  • I love everything about ting so if they change the dashboard it can only be good because ting is a cell phone company for the people, not for the sole purpose of the cell phone company's bottom line or highly creative marketing department.

  • So the small pie charts are only for users with 2-5 lines, how do people with more than 5 lines get their per device totals easily?

  • I agree that the new design seems like a step backwards. I much prefer having as much information as possible at-a-glance. Please be extra cautious when removing or obscuring information that customers may have grown accustomed to (this recently happened with the Android app, without warning). Ting has been proactive about soliciting user opinions in the past, why not just let [interested] customers see and vote on these change ideas before implementing them? Then you're not unnecessarily shaking the boat, and you're more likely to satisfy the most people by giving them precisely what they expected and voted for...

  • I liked the old layout much more. The numbers were more useful than the pie chart

  • Like the new look but I want to know how many minutes each phone is using.  I don't want to have it listed out, that would take me forever to add up when you have 10 lines on this account.  Same goes for the text and data.  Please put this feature back.

  • I would like to be able to either change a number to an actual name or at least add a name to the number displayed.

  • I think the previous dashboard was much better.  This one looks nice, but now I don't see the breakdown per line of actual minutes, messages, data.  This is important to keep.  It's still on the mobile app, but if it disappears off of that, I'll be very unhappy.  I understand updates and fresh design, but not at the expense of functionality.  These new pie graphs mean basically nothing.  There's no point in having the dashboard if it's strictly a graphical representation instead of actual numbers.

  • I miss the expected usage data. While I can look at the days remaining on my billing cycle then do the math in my head three times (Minutes, Messages, Megabytes) isn't the idea of a dashboard? This was probably the most useful metric, to me, on the current usage page. In this case, less is not more. Unless someone in marketing came up with the idea that removing expected usage data would make it easier for customers to surpass the next threshold - say it ain't so Ting.

  • Time to step back just a bit from details of the new vs old design...

Ting is ALL ABOUT user delight. It's been that way from the beginning. You've got thousands of delighted users who would agree.

These changes are not delightful. Most of us find that the old page did a better job of meeting our needs.

We understand that the new page will improve. There's going to be an extended period, though, where it still doesn't work as well as the old page.

The obvious solution is to provide a link to a "Classic View". One click, and we can see the old information, in the old format, working exactly as well as it always has. Weather Underground did a redesign years ago, and they still support a "Classic" view with the old style. Yeah, they've probably got more resources than you do, but they've also got a much larger and more complex site. Here, on the Ting Control Panel, we're talking about a small handful of pages.

Please give us a link back to the old view. Make it small, make us click it each time, periodically push us to try out the new (and freshly improved) version as it gets updated. Whatever.

But right now, it feels like you're stubbornly insisting on taking away the old view, even after we explained at great length how that decision causes us problems.

In the nearly two years I've been with Ting, this is the most un-Ting-like experience I've had yet. Please throw us a bone and give us a link back to the old page.

    Thanks...

  • I enjoyed the old one, but i think i like this one a lil better. The relevant info is easily accessed by either hovering or clicking a hyperlink. I have the iphone app and usually use that. It also lets me determine how much each device is using which is the feature i use most  in order to keep costs down.

  • I like the pie chart, but I miss the estimated usage feature.   That is a more useful tool for me for understanding how I may need to adapt my usage to keep within my monthly budget for phone bill than just the pie chart.

  • Keeping  it short:

#1: Please give us a link back to the old view. (Thx to Mr Brandenburg for explaining it so well above)

#2 Please do not mess with the iPhone App, that is what I use mostly and it is still OK

  • Don't usually get this vocal, but I found the old dashboard much more pleasing in almost every way possible.  I personally don't care whether the graphics used are pie chart or graphs or whatever, but under the old dashboard, when I logged in, I could see a high-level usage summary by phone for minutes, texts and MB.  Then, if I wanted more details for a given phone (calls, data usage per day, etc), I could simply click on the details link, which would then show each call duration, each text, etc.  But now, there's not even that high-level summary... it just goes right into the details, so I have no idea of the aggregate amount of usage per phone is (unless I manually add up all the minutes/text/MB).

Thankfully, the mobile app hasn't change, and still reflects the old structure, so I won't be updating the app anytime soon.  But I don't feel like I will log into the web-based Ting page anymore for usage statistics.

It's nothing that will cause me to look elsewhere, but I find it amazing this got stamped with "Great Idea!"  Seems like Ting has made improvements everywhere, but this is a step backwards -- breaking something that didn't need fixing.

  • I just went to check how much more data my wife used and according to the pie charts she used MOREE, but when I go to get how much (the detail) all I get is the date and megabytes but no total. This means I have to use my math skills. This should be fixed. Otherwise the layout is fine

  • Whoever approved the new web page should be reassigned to a role where he/she can't hurt as many people.

Please provide a link to the old page.

I'll be brutally candid, I'm very disappointed with Ting.

    Is anybody listening?

  • Sharon Orpin - under device settings, you can add a nickname to label a line.  Is this what you were looking for?

  • I think she wants to label the destinations like the mobile apps do. The mobile apps get the information from the contacts on the phone.

I believe this has already been requested in the Feature Request forum.

  • Bruce, Sharon (if that is really what you're looking for) - I'm not surprised it is 'not planned'.  You'd have to upload your address book for them to be able to do that.  My data is spread around the web in enough places, I'm not keen on it.

  • I do think it is funny to label the device fees as "extras".  And I'm wondering about the average-bill data.  Averaged over how long?  If you're a long-term customer, usage patterns could change considerably over time, and especially when you kick your kids off your plan your kids are gainfully employed and move on to paying for their own service.
