Texting to GVoice Number showing GVoice # not Sender's #

I have a (hopefully not all that unusual) Google Voice setup for texting, but I seem to be having a problem with the setup.

Background Info:

1. Just activated a new Ting phone (Photon Q) this week

  1. Old phone still currently active.

  2. I will be porting my old phone number to Google Voice.  This hasn't been done yet.

  3. Google Voice is installed on new phone, using Preexisting Google Voice #.

  4. Set up "GV Integration" app to allow me to use Google Voice to send/receive text messages through native text application

Here's the problem ... When I sent a text message from the old phone (no google voice at all) to my google voice number, it showed up in the native messaging application (as expected), and also the google voice application (as expected).  However, in both of those places, it shows the message being FROM the google voice number, not the old phone number.

I tried again a few minutes later, and it worked properly (top example in picture) ... then I tried about half an hour later, and it didn't work again -- http://db.tt/urNVc0MT (picture)

  • This sounds like your old phone is still associated with that Google Voice account (set as a forwarding phone), and in the GV settings (Calls) outbound Caller ID is configured.

  • @Trevor - I thought that was the case too, but I had already removed the old phone as a forwarding phone for GVoice, and I had never really used the app on that phone.  I even went so far as to uninstall the app on the old phone and try again, still got the same result.

  • Further update ... this morning it seems to work fine ... I texted the GVoice # from my old phone, and it seemed to work properly, and a friend texted from their phone, and it worked properly.  I almost wonder if the old phone # was cached somewhere, and it just took some time for changes to propagate?

  • That'd be my best guess too, nothing else comes to mind for me.
