Question about syncing Google Contacts

Hi.  I'm new to Google Voice and to Android. I just got the LG Optimus S yesterday. But I already have Google Voice installed on it and I've successfully made calls using my Google Voice number.

However, I'm having a hard time syncing my Google Contacts via Google's website with the Contacts listed on my Optimus S.

I'm a Mac user and before receiving my Optimus S, I imported the vcards of my most used contacts into Google Contacts via Google's website. When I received the Optimus S and enabled Google Voice, all the contacts were synced to my Optimus without my having to do anything.

However, I wanted to add another contact. So, I imported it into Google Contacts via the Google website. The problem is that it's not appearing on the Optimus S. I'm using the Optimus S with wifi while I'm home. Since it didn't sync using wifi, I thought maybe contacts only synced when using 3G. So, I turned on 3G and the contacts still haven't synced up.

So, I'm not how sure how to get the contact to appear on the Optimus S. Does anyone know what I should do?

Thanks!

  • Look in Settings, Accounts & Sync. Background data and Auto-sync must both be on for it to sync automatically. In addition, each account listed below has settings for which things it syncs.

You can make it sync any time in that section by tapping the dot with the circular arrows.

  • Thanks. I tried that and my phone kept saying it was syncing but it never finished. I then did a soft reset by pulling out the battery and now the sync is working.

  • TREVOR - I can't find that command path. i have a Moto E phone and logged into my Google acct but contacts aren't syncing.   I see "Google Settings" but no heading for 'Accounts & Sync' just Account history. Where can I find these settings?

  • You're looking for the "Settings" app farther down, not "Google Settings". (Yeah, it's confusing, especially with the similar icon.) The organization of the specific options has changed a bit in these newer Android versions.

In Settings, tap Accounts down in the Personal section. The menu icon (upper right) on that screen has the auto-sync checkbox. Tap Google to get to the section that actually lists the account(s). To check the individual sync options (contacts, calendar, gmail, etc) tap the account name. You can also make it sync immediately from the menu icon here.

The background data setting is no longer an issue; it can't be turned off for Google account syncing specifically, and if it gets turned off globally there will be an alert icon in the top status bar, so it'll be obvious.
