Galaxy S6 Active
Answered

Let's say, hypothetically, that I was to purchase a Galaxy S6 Active from AT&T and was able to unlock it. Would it work on Ting's GSM network?

I really really really want this phone, and I'm very bummed that it seems to be just an AT&T exclusive right now.

  • Although it may work, a better choice would be a T-Mobile phone and it does not need to be unlocked.
Compare your phone's specs with Ting;s requirements.

  • It looks like it supports all the same bands that Ting's network supports. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything weird with unlocking devices from AT&T.

  • That question would be better asked on an AT&T forum. It looks like it might need to be active on AT&T before they will unlock it. Cou could try calling AT&T to confirm.

    I looked at http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB414532

Here is a quote for a phone without a service commitment.
In addition to the general eligibility requirements, you must meet the following requirements to unlock a phone or tablet purchased without a service commitment if you're an AT&T customer:
Your device has been active on your AT&T account for at least 60 days.
Your account must be in good standing, with no past due amount or unpaid balance owed to AT&T.

  • You can use this phone on the GSM Network through Ting. But you MUST buy it outright (fullprice)to get the unlock code straight from AT&T. It'll take a few days and then the GSM simcard provided by Ting
