IMEI result says it's not compatible, does 'unlock' the phone make it compatible?

  • Unlocking would not make the phone compatible. Ting CDMA can only use Sprint phones. Some unlocked Verizon phones have limited functionality on Ting GSM.
The IMEI check assumes the phone is SIM unlocked for domestic use.
Here are the GSM network requirements. https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205428938-Can-I-Bring-My-GSM-Device-to-Ting-Compatibility-and-Unlocking-Guide

  • Hi Young! Bruce is correct -- the compatibility checker doesn't show (and isn't actually able to show) if the phone is locked or unlocked. It checks to see if your phone is compatible with the Ting frequencies.

The article that Bruce links to ( https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us/articles/205428938-Can-I-Bring-My-GSM-Device-to-Ting-Compatibility-and-Unlocking-Guide ) is the best way to see what bands/frequencies we support.

While some Verizon phones do have GSM capabilities, they're not always compatible with us.

  • Bruce and Brian - thank you both for your prompt responses - many of friends were telling me about your great customer service and now I know it's true.

Now, I just downloaded this app called 'LTE Discovery' on my Verizon Note 4 and it shows I'm on Band 4 (DL Freq: 2110 - 2155 MHz and UL Freq: 1710 - 1755 MHz) - per below link (GSM Requirements), my phone should be compatible, no?

I'm new to this and I really want to jump the ship to Ting...

  • I just want to comment that I am just a Ting user, helping out where I can. I have been a Ting user for quite a while, though.

  • Hi Young! That's interesting that the app was showing that the phone was supporting Band 4, which is one of the frequencies we use. To look into this, we'll need to take a look at your phone's MEID, so we'll need to move into a more private method of communicating. I've sent a follow-up e-mail to you to look into this further for you!

  • I'm on the same boat, did you get any news from the Ting team?
