Port Comcast Xfinity Voice # > Ting # > Google Voice #

I would like to have my Comcast home phone # ported into Google Voice but the number is ineligible because Google views it as a land line. I see where the recommended process is to port the number from Comcast to an AT&T or T-Mobile disposable phone, then to Google Voice.

Are there any negative ramification of porting through Ting instead? I have an inactive device on Ting which could receive the inbound port from Comcast, but I am concerned that the port into Google Voice may affect my other devices on Ting?

If the recipient Ting device already had a Ting number, would the old Ting number be immediately reassigned? Thanks.

  • Hi Brian. Did you complete this process? How did it go?

I don't have the extra complication you have but I plan to do basically the same thing (port my land line number from Comcast to Ting with the intention of then porting it to Google Voice). I'm currently waiting for the port from Comcast to Ting to complete.

  • Hi Jason. I ended up porting my Sprint (cell) number to Google Voice without any problems and it now forwards to my Ting phone or Comcast land line. I am still trying to port the Comcast line, but will be porting to Ring.To instead of Google Voice. Ring.To provides free VOIP service without a porting charge, and a couple of extra features not offered by Google Voice. Having both lines into my Obihai should enable a good 'hands on' comparison between Ring.To and Google Voice. If I ultimately decide to port the Comcast number into Google Voice, I think I will do so using Ting as an intermediate step.

  • So far it's been pretty painless. I took the plunge and stage one is complete. I successfully ported my Comcast number to an old inactive phone I had with Ting. Stage two, porting from Ting to Google Voice, is now in progress. The only tricky part was not having the old Ting phone in my possession. But I just used Ting's website to forward all calls to my newly ported number to my regular mobile and I was able to complete Google's confirmation process.

Since your title describes exactly what I wanted to do and what I'm actually doing now, I'll update with my full experience here once the process is complete. For what it's worth, I'm also using an Obihai device.

  • Hello Brian,

How did you find the Port Out pin for the ComCast number?  I want to do the same process you described but I'm not sure how to find the Port Out pin.

    Thanks,
