Would love the Iphone 4 to allow updated ios to 8 so I could use basic apps nothing fancy. Answered

Right now I can't even install a basic SwiftKey app for a better keyboard. I loved the way SwiftKey on android would give word choices which is much better than what Iphone 4 offers. Plus you can't see what you have typed beyond one line. Basically the Iphone 4 really doesn't allow any apps to install. So disappointing. I gave up on trying to see if any apps works on it. I have been turned off by this. If it can install Google Maps it should be able to run other apps. This is my first Iphone and I am learning on this unit and it would be nice to learn to do more and keep me as an Iphone customer so I would upgrade or just buy apps. Not everyone can afford the newest thing at hundreds of dollars but addressing this segment in a better way is better than nada. Missed opportunity, or maybe offer an Iphone 5 for 87.00 like the Iphone 4? I love Ting and want to be able to use more data minutes since I barely use any...missed opportunity with this as well. Thanks for listening.

iPhone updates come from Apple, and unfortunately Apple stopped updating the iPhone 4 two years ago. It would be nice, but Apple is not going to provide iOS8 to iPhone 4 users.

Both the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 support iOS9.

Thanks Ben I just wish someone at Ting would at least ask them and see if we could use the ios 8 which is not that up to date and not used as much. Since you buy from them well you have some leverage on this.

I feel your pain, I tried to install spotify on my old first generation iPod touch that I don't use anymore for anything but figured at least I could use it to stream some music. No dice, they locked it down and now the device is totally useless to me.

I'm not happy about that in the least, you are right that they should try and offer some work-arounds to their users; something as simple as letting you use previous releases of the applications that didn't need to latest iOS to run.

When it comes to talking to Apple about things like this we don't actually have any leverage on our own, it would take all phone carriers and users to put up a stink about something like this for them to even notice and think "maybe we should still look after our older devices".

Also, if you are considering the possibility of a new device, I'd check the website in and around Black Friday to see what's going on, as you may find something at a much better price =)

Thanks Brian. Looking forward to hearing from you. This is the wife who handles all the tech stuff for the family and was the one to sign us up for Ting.
