I have a GSM Asus 2 and my phone won't consistently call out using the GV #. If I reset the setting in the Voice app to "Ask every time I make a call" under Making Calls it appears to work only the ONE time following the setting update. This means I have to switch it to something else and then switch it back. What's going on?
Outgoing number won't show as Google Voice #

Are you only trying to make Wi-Fi calls via Google Hangouts and your GV #? That's what I do and it works fine but I had to follow all the steps outlined in the Ting blog post about Google Hangouts and do all sorts of settings in that app. I also had to go online and login to Google Voice and set it so it did not list my Ting number, just the GV #. I think your issue lies therein.
I can make calls from Google Hangouts just fine but when I need to call from the native phone app, the call is not going through Google Voice. I need to make calls this way from time to time. It used to work.
When you say native app do you mean Android or Google Voice? I assume the native app would automatically use your cellular/Sim number i.e. Ting. That's how mine works, anyway. Then again, I've only ever used my Ting number/cellular service in emergencies where Wi-Fi wasn't available.
I did find a note at GV but I don't know if it pertains to your situation:
"A T-Mobile system update is preventing some T-Mobile Android phones from making outbound calls through certain applications (including Google Voice). If you don't hear "This call is being placed by Google" on an international/paid call, your call will be connected through your carrier."
Android; the regular phone app. It is supposed to use Google Voice as my OUTGOING number while using the SIM.
Thanks for the quotation. I use Ting/Sprint though. Right? :)
Ting uses both networks. IIRC, you only use Sprint if you have a CDMA phone. GSM is T-Mobile.
Oh OK! Interesting. That could be it!
