VOIP Service

Hello Ting,

I realize Ting is starting to build out more offerings than just cell service.  For example the growing Internet Fiber side.  I would like to see Ting start offering VOIP services over a Net connection.

In other words a competing service to things like Vonage and MagicJack.  I am sure Ting would do it better!

Thanks!

Jeremy

  • Agreed.  My state regulators keep making noises about allowing carriers to abandon POTS.  When they do, I'd love to be able to migrate my landline to Ting VOIP.  It seems a natural step between Ting Internet and Mobile.  One would hope for some nice mobile/VOIP integration too.

  • Hi TING,

Is it ready yet? Why not? Seriously!

  • Hey Ron,

Since this post was first written, there's been kind of a boom in development of free VOIP services that do things above and beyond what we would be able to do with a lot of time, money and effort.

We recommend pairing yoru Ting service with Google Voice's VOIP service to not only get stellar VOIP, but avoid paying us entirely for the privilege.

  • It is becoming increasingly clear that 'free' services aren't, unless one enjoys 'being the product'.  I've felt for a long time that Google has just gotten too big for its britches and have avoided Google voice, despite being intrigued by its capabilities.  I honestly haven't had a chance to look at GV from a privacy point of view, but I can't see how they are providing that service without something undesirable going on.

If it is Ting's position that a reasonably priced VOIP service for those who do want privacy is not feasible due to the competition from the 'free' providers, then I guess I will have to add that to things I wish to discuss with my elected officials with respect to the growing monitization of every aspect of our lives that involves a device with internet connectivity.   Pity.  VOIP seemed to be a good complementary service for Ting.

    Thanks!

    Rich

  • I can appreciate it is expensive and time consuming to setup a VOIP service from the ground up.  Still it would be nice to see Ting partner with a solid VOIP provider.  It isn't like Ting is operating towers for cell service.  Nope you guys are reselling others' network.

As for Google never for me!  I don't like Google at all and use Google as little as possible.  I personally think Google needs to be broken up for multiple violations of the Sherman Anti-Trust act.

Well perhaps one day Ting will get in the SIP game even if it is private labeling another provider.
