Motorola Droid Maxx

My daughter was given a Droid Maxx from Verizon that she would like to bring to Ting.  The ESN check says it's not compatible.  Is that the final word, or is this because it doesn't have a Ting sim card?  I'll admit, that when it comes to cell phones my technical knowledge is limited, so please go easy on me.

I'll learn what I need to if there is some way to get it registered with Ting.

It is running android version 4.4.4

  • Hi Brent! With older Verizon phones (especially those designed exclusively for Verizon like the Maxx), they can sometimes show up as incompatible because:

    a) they don't have the radios necessary to communicate with a non-Verizon network

    b) they do have the radios necessary, but Verizon sometimes disables certain features of their phones (like texting) when they're on non-Verizon networks, so we can't guarantee that you would get full service with the phone.

If you like, get in touch with us via phone (1-855-846-4389) or through live chat, and we can take a closer look at the IMEI of the phone and get a clearer picture what's going on.

Faster, though, if you already have an active Ting GSM SIM card, you could pop it into the phone and see if you're able to get it up and running with it.

    Let me know!

  • Thanks Brian, I just got done chatting with Rod M. and I am out of luck with this phone. The ESN checker rejected the IMEI.

    Thanks though!
