Ting's rate page

The rate page does not display all the rates at the same time and there is no indication what to do to get to see that.  It is not intuitive at all.  I had to call support to find out how to do this.  I don't remember exactly how the website was before but it was very much better then than what it is now.  The website previously had been one of the easiest to use on the entire internet.  It needs to be restored to its previous state.

  • Hi Clinton,

We're always receptive to feedback and that's why the page was changed in the first place...but with that being said we have seen similar comments to yours in our Ting Community forum.

We will be looking at making changes to the site in the coming months to make it as intuitive as possible but for now, here is an image of the previous rates page/chart.

You can also view the current usage in your account to see how close you are to the next bucket as the usage gauges there will display how close you are to having your usage spill over into the next bucket.

  • Was recently talking to someone who is same age as me and uses their phone similarly to how I use to and would be ideal customer but would be happy to find a way to show them the above but would have been wanting to do so by telling them go to this site click on rates. There isn't any way they would understand or sign up for ting based on the current rates page design. I know this and would feel awkward to even consider sending them to it feel like they wouldn't understand what it is trying to say and that i'm just trying to get them to switch carriers that maybe I make money doing that, why is this person asking me to do this. The old rates page would instantly and logically in under a minute and more likely in less than 10 seconds tell them what i'm trying to tell them or suggesting to them by going there same as it did me in exactly that amount of time. (this is what I always wanted and was always looking for (the above chart info regarding how to design a reasonable phone service)). Back when you changed this I gave extensive break down to someone in chat why the page is not only confusing and incorrect but why a person with some basic levels of ocd that most of us have could never use it as whatever person who redesigned it thought they would or could; and how the question design prevents a person from using it as intended due to answering a question which makes them answer the answer to that question, based on that question rather than based on their preferred answer to their own preferred question which begs the question why even ask a question or questions at all which pigeon hole a person into receiving one piece of the above dataset when they might want it all; and a specific piece of data from that dataset which is probably their old useage based on other companies prices forcing them into that usage and type and question and answer when if they knew using the above the full dataset of prices for all useages of all services u provide in one glance they can change the questions from what were their useages from other companies based on needing to fall under a certain overall price and the need to not be forced into buckets; to what would I use if I could use anything knowing what the prices are because I can see them without having to fill out a bunch of stupid questions not worded correctly not knowing up front the answers (prices) needing to know that before I can even ask my own questions which is would I use data-plan if it werent forced to pick a amount be locked in forever and knew what it cost using just my eyes in under one second by looking at the above. would i use text if the same were true. do i have to lie for the sake of the stupid question form design to find out answers to questions different than the way the questions were asked. as in not what is my useage but would I prefer it to be. and needing to know the answers before I can select them as answers based on needing certain prices to be true prior to knowing what they will be. Need the above not some stupid fake question ocd truth vs lieing have to alter everything 100 times to recreate the above when needed 1 second to do the same thing prior without screwing up a person's psychology to do it. the current page is not something i'd send anyone to. the above is. Wouldn't mind sending this other person to the above, sure as heck not sending them to the one u have up now and have had up for 2018 to now. if some people need you to warp your page around the other phone companies model of plans so they are comparing something not similar to something they understand so that you have to create a page that gives impression you would wish or prefer that you were actually having a similar service to what they have and desire to change your service to what they have and will slowly actually do so or try to move them over by making it seem the same or similar then at the very least give the above somewhere simple to find on the same page for the people that can make use of that in a simple straight forward easy quick logical way and wont be mentally mislead or screwed over by what is currently on the rates page. From the moment I seen the current rates page back when you changed it I chatted someone asking why you are switching from your current system to a plan model (you later added some language I believe onto the page to clarify you don't have plans because the page gives every impression that you do or prefer to or want to change to it) and I figured that you were swapping over to it. Still feel someone in the company is using that change with intention of slowly switching over to plans model like the other companies have. Just doesn't seem the person who designed the earlier page would ever have made the current one or that the person who made the current one wasn't working at one of the other models type carriers understands that mindset better prob thinks this idea is weird and just wants to swap the whole thing over to something they understand better. I'd rather stay with ting. If I wanted a plan to be locked into I wouldn't be here.If i'd came here and seen the current rates page i'd never be your customer cause it looks like every other page from every other company who has plans. It looks nothing like the service you offer. I signed up here because of the above version or older version of the page wouldn't have ever been a customer except for that. The person i'd not mind sending your way would prob not become a customer by the current site design and wonder what i'm wanting them to do; though think they would have 'got it' right away with old design. Think at the very least you should merge the 2 methods. Most logical people I think would get it with the above immediately if they needed any more breakdown at least they'd have a rational basis for what the company is doing before going further. Everything else on the page is a mess that leads a person into thinking the opposite of reality.

  • Not listed above but the previous one hit off right away with there are no plans, everything resets monthly only billed on what you use as you reach each bracket/bucket. right off the bat then you see that full chart/dataset of info/prices/brackets-buckets.

The new page led (sure u modified it since when you first redesigned it) led with here is your line fee what number of lines do you use/need; and what amounts via questions of voice, text, data do you need. followed by a sum. Same thing u'd find at verizon/at&t/sprint/tmobile. pretty much straight up copy of what they would have.

I made these comments and sure others did too back when you changed it which was long time ago. If you haven't got around to fixing it since then then somehow doubt 'in months we'll get around to it' will ever happen either. and this other person's comment was Feb. It is September. So months have occurred. many more than months have occurred since this blight was created though. As I said i'd prefer for the company to continue to exist, prob easier with more customers. your a reseller who has optionality between sprint and tmobile networks, once they merge your at risk like every other reseller of being bought by your now one single parent if it would be fair to call them that, and then we get to use the old system of premade plans. Would prefer you actually get more customers before that happens to prolong the timeframe u stay independant though think usually the resellers got swallowed up as much due to customers numbers alone, but at least there would be one less reason for you to dissappear (not enough customers) down from 2 which is that and (too many customers) and get eaten by the combined tmobile/sprint. Can't imagine your adding as many customers as you would be if your rates page were more obvious as to what you really offer, and it isn't rate plans. Just wish u'd stop designing the page around rate plans.

  • Hi Steven,

Thanks for the detailed feedback. We appreciate posts like this because we get to hear from our customers and take in what they are experiencing when they use Ting. The rates page is something that gets talked about a lot but right now it's been decided to stick with the current page that we have which uses the bill estimator. It's been working for us and has been helping us grow.

Just to comment on the idea that we would be bought up by Sprint/T-Mobile if they merge it's not something that will happen. We're in this for the long haul and we're actually going to be starting to offer a third network in 2020 as we end our GSM network partnership. The new network is going to allow for more people to be able to use our services due to improved coverage in areas we didn't have it before. Ting is never going to be right for everyone but we are making sure we continue to grow and help more people save on their phone bills.
